I actually have a good reason Koi looks so smol compared to the other shepherds else and I am surprised I didn’t think about it before holy shit-
So among a lot of thing I have made it pretty evident that Koi has a lot of traits that reflect the bond she has with the fell dragon. This being the fact her eyes seem more manakete/dragon like and the mark of grima on her left eye. . Thus the reason she look about 3-5 years younger than her actual age is due to the link she shares with Grima being stronger than she thought.
Furthermore, taking this into account with what Grima said about her not being strong before I like to believe that despite her actions in killing Grima herself that at one point she will be able to seal part of her power to create a dragon stone and in turn take up a dragon form herself.
Thus long story short. Koi is more manakete/dragon than human.
When I was talking to Nick/ ssbmfreak36 on skype last night I started to do some serious thinking last night as to why I really like the idea of Koi being married to Lon'qu and why I am glad that I did marry her to him.
Warning this ramblings on Lonbin (or LonKoi because My unit is called Koi) and it is a bit long.
One thing I had come up with was the fact that I really enjoy how they parallel each other due to their own beliefs. They both are stoic or possibly even aloof to some extent when dealing with other. Neither of them are known for losing their cool and they both rarely show their emotions on their sleeves. So I like that when they first clashed with one another that things went south really quickly because they are more alike than think for different reasons.
However, the I think primary reason is because the fact they are both are comfortable with one another. To Lon'qu, Koi isn't just a woman, she's just herself and that is why he feels comfortable with her. It's because she is his partner and friend before a woman. He knows that he can trust her above all els and that is probably why he came to love her.
It works in a similar way vice versa.
Lon'qu unlike some doesn't treat her based off her appearance but, on her as a person and tactician. I feel that they have a mutual understanding for one another. They know where each others boundaries and don't try to force them past them unless it is something that needs to be done. Not only that but they respect that they both have their own duties to attend to.
This is why I believe they would have gotten married during the two year gap period when Ylisse was in peace. With Koi being the tactician of the shepherds it would not have been feasible for her to get married at the time and I believe Lon'qu would respect that. After all, before she is a woman or person even Koi is a tactician and her duty is to protect those under her command.

Roster: A female dread fighter who's origins hail from another realm. In contrast to the Deadlords she fought alongside of she was very much alive and actually came from a realm outside of that. However, the place that she originates from is still a mystery. The most flexible person in camp. Born January 19th.
Personality: Calm and collective, Koichiko is a fairly reserved in the regards of interaction with others. Often times preferring to be alone than around a large group of people she can be somewhat intimidating to approach due to her blunt way of speaking. It is to be noted that, despite all of her seriousness she does enjoy the company of those who she trusts over a cup of tea and a slice of cake. As a person she instead prefer to tackle problems head on rather than running away from them and do to the fact that she does not letting her own emotions cloud her judgement Koichiko is able to work through her problems with ease.
One the battlefield however, she proves to be quite ruthless to her enemies showing very little mercy to those that would stand in her or the shepherd's way and cutting down without a moments hesitation.
History: Hailing from a world very similar to this one Koichiko was born into the Grimleal and claimed to be the vessel for their god by her father Validar before her mother stole her away from the cult. In order to escape their clutches her mother took out her left eye and sewn shut because it bore the mark of Grima. From then on they continued to live constantly on the move to avoid the Grimleal until her mother was killed when the village they were in was raided by a group of Plegian Brigand. Not long after that she was founded by Chrom without any memories and became the tactician of the shepherd at the young age of 17. From the point onwards she aided them in the war against Plegia, Valm and eventually against the Grimleal and The Fell Dragon.
After the 'death' of both her and the dragon the young woman returned to Ylisse serving as the Exalt's Chief tactical advisor at the age of 19 years old with Ricken as her understudy. She remained in this position for for six years until passing on it to Ricken, naming him as her successor and leaving the realm behind for a place where she could continuously put her skills to good use.
In order to prevent anyone from her realm from recognizing her, Koichiko altered her appearance by scarring her face, cutting of a large amount of her hair, taking up the dread fighter class and fighting with a mask on.

Extra: After recruitment Koichiko will still continue to fight with a mask on. However, outside of battle she prefers not to wear it.
