So, of course, the new Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles is pretty damned good.
Splinter's character design is kinda fucking beautiful, and I enjoy everyone's characterization so far. Especially Mikey and Donnie, but I think I'm biased because I always love them.
I don't know how I feel about April being a kid, though. I like her being the big sister/Team Mom of the group. Even if a couple of the boys crush on her a bit here and there, it was a dynamic that was always there.
Aaaaaaaand IalwayskindofshipherwithSplintersoyeahnowthatwouldbecreeyandbadwrong.
HOWEVER, I am interested to see how they handle her being the same age as the turtles and having Donnie so obviously crushing on her. It certainly creates a bit of a will they/won't they thing that only existed with Casey before...
AAAAAND I can't wait to see how they do Casey Jones. He is one of my favorites (okay, all of them but Leo are, usually) so I can't wait to see how they do him. Are they gonna keep him in the big brother role? Or are they gonna make him 15 to match them and, more importantly, April? And then, are we dealing with a possible love triangle plot where Donnie is forever in the friendzone while April goes for the more conventionally attractive guy her own species? Keep Donnie's crush completely shallow and eventually fade in the way a 15yos first crush usually does? Interested to see how that works.
And, also, KRANG!
There were a lot of little anime/martial arts movie cliche jokes in there that I loved and kept the show fixed on the silly end of the realism vs unrealism scale, so things that would normally annoy me (Japan is forever trapped in the Feudal period) just add to the charm of the show.
And did I mention that Splinter is fucking beautiful? Because he is!
