You have this awesome plot and you don’t think just using the same ol’ actions and one-liners will bring out the awesomeness of this plot. This is when para-ing comes in.
Para is a style of roleplaying that enables the roleplayer to add detail and thought into the plot. It usually consists of one or two paragraphs. When you para it is similar to writing a story, omitting the numerous paragraphs (unless you are doing multi-para, which is three or more paragraphs).
Many roleplayers prefer to use the para style of writing because, again, it gives more detail and forms the situation better, and it also avoids short or even one-worded responses that may show disinterest. The latter prohibits the development of the plot but that is another post.
Still don’t understand? Below is an example of para. I blocked off the muse’s name and picture for protection.
As you see, the action symbols are not used and instead the dialogue is in quotations rather than free roaming. The plot moves along better this way. If done with actions, it would take a while to get to certain points.
Para seems difficult and time consuming but it’s worth it in the end. It creates a beautiful roleplaying experience that you can enjoy for a long time.
