Set in some loose "future" potential moment, this is the largest number of the main trolls that could gather in the same spot for a party with minimal issues.
WARNING: certain load-bearing attendees CANNOT leave first & others are banned from wandering off.
Halloween greetings to all (or perhaps grimmest Allcursttide Night to Alternians according to my calendar)! Your next dose of Mythoslain is on the horizon, but I wanted to funnel my efforts into an indulgently delightful Halloween costume piece of the core Mythoslains, including some faces we've yet to truly meet! Is that a spoiler? Perhaps... but what would an ambitious fanventure be without eventual human players!
Everyone is dressed up as a horror (or horror adjacent) game character for the sake of thematic unity! Choices were based on vibes/character fit & secondarily what the character might choose if given access to the version of the game that we humans on Earth know in the case of the trolls. I wanted everyone to have a costume from different games with the exception of Eelgeb & Hanjer since the Enki & Ragnvaldr costume was what spawned this idea in the first place & Hanjer is unlikely to have strong opinions on costumes he can't see himself.
Costumes from left to right:
Zazaei as Shodan (System Shock), Vhadre as Grimora (Inscryption), Ithaqu as Witch Princess (Slay the Princess), Ksakal as a Bubble Head Nurse (Silent Hill 2), Xidobo as the Rat Prophet (Pathologic Classic), Temjin as Sander Cohen (Bioshock), Lherit as Slenderman (Slender: The Eight Pages), Aiinyd as the Grave Robber (Darkest Dungeon), Optera as Jeanette Voerman (Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines), Yidrah as Monika (Doki Doki Literature Club), Eelgeb as Enki (Fear & Hunger), Hanjer as Ragnvaldr (Fear & Hunger), Cami as Alice (Alice: Madness Returns), Isha as Anya (Mouthwashing), Arlo as Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil), Wess as Micolash (Bloodborne), Vern as Daniel (Amnesia: The Dark Descent), & Jaxx as Sugar/Sucre (OFF).
You're here to slay her. Luckily, she wants to be killed. But only if you do it right.
I lost control & designed (probably) all of the Princesses for an IthaKsa Slay the Princess AU! Made some changes to the voices and added a couple new Princesses.
Left to Right: Ksakal (as The Long Quiet/"The Voice of the Villain"), The Sacrifice, The Succubus, The Mother, The Mage, The Mourned, The Huntress, The Savior, The Wight, The Effigy, The Prey, The Idol, The Devoured, The Demon, The Reborn, The Nameless)
More thoughts under cut:
FULL LIST OF VOICES:
• Voice of the Villain (default)
• Voice of the Lustful
• Voice of the Starved
• Voice of the Devoted
• Voice of the Morbid
• Voice of the Tamed
• Voice of the Rebel
• Voice of the Cautious
• Voice of the Fatalist
• Voice of the Weary
• Voice of the Fool
POSSIBLE PATHS:
• The Sacrifice (Fool) -> The Demon (Fool & Cautious)
• The Succubus (Lustful)
• The Savior (Devoted) -> The Idol (Devoted & Tamed)
• The Devoured (Starved)
• The Huntress (Cautious) -> The Prey (Cautious & Lustful)
• The Mother (Tamed)
• The Mage (Fatalist) -> The Effigy (Fatalist & Morbid)
• The Mourned (Weary) -> The Wight (Weary & Starved)
• The Nameless (Rebel)
• The Reborn (Morbid)
No clear idea what choices cause which path/Princess to manifest beyond some obvious ones like The Devoured coming after you try to cannibalize her & The Succubus likely following trying to fuck her instead of kill her. One thing that became readily apparent as I developed the designs/concepts for these Princesses is that Ksakal & Ithaqu make the game significantly more horny even in the absence of the lustful, but such is the nature of their hate!
The baseline idea for this hate story is that of insatiable challenge & the desperate need for balance. The struggle to allow her to die permanently & thus be denied a mirror through which to see yourself with ugly clarity that more "wholesome" emotions like love denies you. To hate in this way is to know yourself & another all too well.
Different Princesses capture different facets of Ithaqu's personality/character hinging on the core idea of her suffering under the perceptions & aspirations of others as a symbol for her flock. While the Idol might not be my favorite design, I enjoy how the severed hand still having her cuff at the wrist indicating that she has either chosen to resign herself to her fate as a revered object or she has neglected to notice how easily she can escape.
I have many more thoughts but I can't afford to let myself get carried away & put off working on Mythoslain proper so I will stop myself here. Might do more with this AU in the future though!
Dump of recent doodles + the cover of the Patreon exclusive zine for my podcast which is actually a prologue/appetizer for a Much Longer zine on classpecting that may be released in a public form at some point! It's WAY too long in its current state to really use as is.
Progress on next flash & update is going good! Projected for very early Feb.
Today is my birthday because I was born today, therefore I get to make indulgent Pathologic AU designs because I Demand It. I also have ironed out a very ambitious idea leading into the end of Act 1 that will require the next updates to come out in larger chunks, but more on that later!
Now this AU isn't a one to one Bachelor = Temjin type of situation, but each of these three healers would have similar-ish profiles (plus origins [kinda]) of Modern - Traditional - Meta/Mystical that relate to their given titles of Nous (Mind) for Temjin/Tomek, Soma (Body) for Ksakal/Korbin, and Psyche (Soul) for Eelgeb/Earnest.
This is supremely self-indulgent, but when you return to the Pathologic mindset & realize your cast has 3 healers, you simply must.
