From Colombia to Kennesaw

Hello readers! Hope you all had a great week and are full of good energy. It looks like the weather for the next couple of weeks should be really good :)! In this week’s post I want to talk about how I got to the point where I am with golf and why I chose to come to KSU.

Let me go way back… I started playing golf when I was a little kid but I didn’t really like it so I stopped playing and tried at least like 5 other sports, including swimming, tennis and squash. When I was about 12 I found a really good coach that made me love golf, I would practice everyday with him and with my group of friends. He was the one that talked to me about the possibility of a scholarship in a university in the US. At first it didn’t really seem like a good idea because I would be away from my family but later on I realized I wanted to play some more competitive golf. I started playing some good golf and was able to compete with the best girls from Colombia so I decided to play several tournaments in the US. That’s where my current coach saw me play for the first time. She and other coaches emailed me and asked for my information and if I would like to possibly play for their school. My coach talked to me about the possibility of coming to Kennesaw State and all the benefits it would provide me. At this point I was about 16-17 so I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but kept in contact with her until I was almost done with my senior year in high school.

My plan at the moment was to graduate in December and take 6 months off and then start university in August but she offered me a full ride for January. I decided to take it because she really needed and extra player at the moment and the idea of doing nothing for 6-8 months was not very pleasing for my parents or me. I came on a visit and fell in love with the campus so I decided to take the opportunity and I signed my scholarship straight away. Kennesaw was a great fit for me because I didn’t want to go up north because it would be really hard to play golf year round. Also I didn’t want to go to Florida because it is really hot year round and I am not a big fan of extreme hot weather. Kennesaw i like in the middle, you get a little bit of everything. Also kennesaw is right next to Atlanta which is a great city. There is also a direct flight from Atlanta to Bogota, which is only 4 and a half hours away!

I have never regretted that decision and is has flipped my life upside down in the best way possible!
