When younger, Kurama was almost perceived as naïve in a way. It wasn’t that he was entirely unaware, but his lack of knowledge about humans and their intricacies often showcased him as such. However, he knew more about humans than they often were led to believe, it was merely what he didn’t know that he often showed. Kurama was aware of their vices, their moralities, their capabilities to commit heinous acts, he was aware that humanity in and of itself; was dangerous to itself. The reason why he was almost perceived as naïve was because he often asked or was curious about their intricacies outside of those things. Curious about their better nature, about why his ‘father’ loved them, about what made them so different than the rest he would not acknowledge as even living. 

This often gave humans a sense of innocence when interacting with him. His fascination with their mundane lifestyles, with their simple habits, was found almost cute. His formerly gentle personality to boot did not help this matter and he generally did not mind it until someone forgot just who he was and decided to act as though they could manipulate or otherwise treat him poorly. They were swiftly met with his teeth and a quick reminder that he was no fool left upon them permanently. Because Kurama was such a duel edged personality, it was ingrained in many generations to be wise when interacting with him, to not mistake his curiosity for being ignorant and to not mistake his kindness for naivete.

        A strange sensation that causes his fur to stand on end, his tails sweeping the grounds of his cavern as he looked up from his latest additions to his growing collection of jewelry. These kits were so sweet, he wondered why they continued to adorn his ears and tails with such things but never had the heart to ever refuse them. That thought aside, he pulls himself to his feet to go examine what was happening outside his home. He could tell that whatever it was did not belong here, however. This odd scent, how it was fairly different from the air here, how it permeated through the pines and further cemented the fact that it belonged elsewhere. That tingling sensation that ran up his spine and caused his tails’ fur to stand a bit, he was curious to find out the cause of it. 

Though when he did step outside his cavern, he was met by a flurry of chakra and flames. His hand immediately went up to block the outburst with his claws, eye settling upon the frame that seemed to dissolve into view. Cocking a brow, he lowered his hand and tilted his head, ears twitching furiously in his elation and the astounding manner in which this one arrived, causing the jewelry that adorned them to give soft jingles. Though he knew what it was in a sense, he couldn’t make heads or tails of the scroll’s writing that circulated the air to tell him of the method. The script was a bit different than what he was used to reading, the words were there but they were slightly off. As if they’d been altered just a fraction and updated. A hum in his throat, his tails whipped about to showcase his jovial nature, bare feet carrying him closer once the storm of arrival died down. 

He smelled.. Familiar. Much like those descended from Indra and yet, there was something different about that scent. There was no denying he was of the Ōtsutsuki line but in looking at him, the fox questioned just where in that line this one settled. “Y’ ain’ fr’m ‘round here are ya?” He mused, a toothy smile turning ebony flesh brightly as he settled in front of the stranger with a look of his amusement for the situation. “I’d ask where y’er fr’m but I don’ think y’ could tell m’ where.” Rather, he assumed when. Yes, the fox was quite brilliant at deducing such things. After years and years of studying his ‘father’s’ materials, it was safe to assume that Kurama was well versed in many things. Just as well though, he didn’t overlook his senses either. 

He was observing him with every one of them, orange hues much like molten gold staring through him, placing him on his scales and determining whether or not he was of the ones he needed to eliminate or not. It seemed to him, however, that this man was nothing if not almost entirely too soft hearted. Truly, the fox couldn’t scent even the slightest bit of maliciousness in him. “’m Kurama. Y’ got a name?” Although he adores humans, he doesn’t spend much time when them so the nuances of them and their mannerisms still evaded him. He preferred to simply watch over them mostly. Introductions concerning the fox were always rather straight forward for it.

          The fox just wants to eat in peace, tails thrashing and showing his annoyance at the newcomer encroaching on his territory. “Wha’d’ya wan’?”

Kurama: Beginning’s Verse!!

Age: A few hundred years old.  Height: 6′3″  Distinctive traits: Sharp teeth, eyes that border on fire in colour, ears, nine tails, claws, black coloured lips, looks like he’s perpetually in his late teens / early twenties (grows out of this as he ages / when humans fuck it all up and stress him tf out). 

A verse set before humans fucked everything up for the fox. The young fox is adventurous, kind, adores humans and finds them fascinating, curious and finds beauty in the world. While he exists purely to destroy the darkest parts of humanity to save them from themselves, he doesn’t hold those parts against them. Rather, he disregards it as if its nothing and goes about still adoring the strange little creatures. He’s absolutely delighted around people, smiles far more often and is impressionable because he doesn’t quite understand the nuances of humans. While he loves humans, he doesn’t spend heaps of time with them, rather he simply watches them and adores seeing them gallivant around. 

He’s extremely protective as well. Instead of his usual nonchalance about caring for humans or protecting only the ones relative to him in some way, he is almost feral with how protective he can be towards the humans he doesn’t taste any of the negative slide (ill intent) on. If someone goes at another with the intention to harm them with no prompting, they should definitely be prepared for the young fox to tear them apart. In this era, he’s rather used to being seen as a Deity of some kind. Humans percieve him as they want to and he’s fine with that since they can’t quite grasp what he is. He’s used to children and adults giving him “Offerings” of sorts, food and trinkets really since he only ever mentions liking something when he’s curious and its never quite anything extravagant. 

His ears are often decorated with jewelry from these ‘offerings’ like cuffs and rings because children seem to enjoy decorating him. They’re honestly something he treasures very much and loves hearing the little noises they make when his ears move about. He doesn’t understand human affection at all. There’s no “oh I’ve seen this and get it” in the slightest. Hand holding? Doesn’t get why humans do that. Hugging? Strange but okay? While he’s used to these things being done by kids who hang off him or otherwise find it in them to hug him or the like, he doesn’t understand why they do it and just mimics the gesture. Which leads to him doing strange things in ordinary conversation. 

A head pap there, a hug there, he doesn’t understand it but it seems to make humans happy so he does it. Because of his lack of being truly jaded and hurt by humans, he’s quite enthusiastic and cheerful. Although he’s cocky and knows he’s powerful, he’s honestly just taunting and teasing his siblings out of love. When he’s confused about something he’ll just smile like a confused puppy and try to figure it out but ultimately, will end up asking even though it hurts his pride a little to not be able to figure it out. 

Some of his happy gestures are ear wiggles and tail flicks. His smallest fox form is still quite large and can easily come up to the ribs on an adult and his largest isn’t as large as the norm but can still take up half a mountain. 

Notes: 

Will fucking fight you over his foxes. Will fight you over his land. Will fight you over pretty much anything but will feel bad about it unless you’re a dick. He’s highly impressionable and in that, tends to easily be teased or manipulated when it comes to simpler things like human nuances. Be careful while teasing him though, he tends to bite when he gets huffy. Carries a sword when in his bi-pedal form because that’s what humans fight with and he wants to be fair if anyone asks him to fight.

           There’s a familiar feeling, one he recognizes as something akin to a spirit yet not quite the same. What was it that small creature called himself? Right, Shinigami. That dreaded word. Though he separated the two things quite easily, it still sent a chill up his spine whenever he had to think of it. There’s a gruff sound in his throat when he finally turns his attention to see who it was now, be it that strawberry boy or that small kit like one but to his surprise it was neither. He hadn’t bothered trying to decipher who it was beyond that similar sense but it mattered little. A dot shaped brow cocked, the fox idly watched her for a moment before sharp jowls opened to actually draw attention to the fact that he could indeed see her. “Y’ need somethin’ li’l spirit ‘r ‘re y’ jus’ nosin’ ‘round?”

             “Oh no, th’ big bad shinobi has m’ by th’ tail!” The fox couldn’t be more of a push over if he tried, he guessed. At least he wasn’t as big of a ham as his stupid boy could be. ‘Play dead’ they’d say and that ball of sunshine would grab the ketchup and make a whole theatrical death scene. Sighing as these strange human beasties crawled about his tails and swung off them as if he were some kind of playground, he found his claws occupied by others painting them and all he could do is look up when he picked up that familiar scent. His heart thrummed strangely in his chest but he’d grown used to the feeling whenever this man made his appearance. Warmth always filled him to the bone when he saw him. 

Those black coloured lips turned into a smirk as he sighed dramatically,”I’d get up t’ hug y’ properly but unfortunately I think th’ kits would get mad at m’ f’er interruptin’ their arts an’ crafts time.” There’s protest that its a makeover before he can even get the words out properly and he chuckles through sharp jowls. “I fear f’er m’ very life, Itachi. She might make m’ look like th’ stupid ball of sunshine on ‘is first picture day.”
