She knew she was rotten at cooking. That’s why her kitchen was mostly occupied by frozen dinners and so much of her income was spent on restaurants. But when Levy had heard that Gajeel was coming home from a particularly lengthy mission that evening, she had wanted to fix something nice for him. What she hadn't planned on was having 'something nice' translate to his stash of instant noodles.
She also hadn't planned on setting her stove ablaze and having to leave her apartment so it could air out, but things didn't always go as planned. Which is how she’d ended up in Gajeel and Lily's kitchen putting instant noodles in fancy bowls. Appearance was important in cooking, after all. Setting the table just before they were due to arrive, Levy took a seat and waited.
And wait she did, for when the pair finally arrived home, they were hours overdue. Gajeel and Lily entered the kitchen to find a sleeping Levy slumped over a bowl of cold noodles, snoring softly. It was apparent that she had been waiting for them.
The partners exchanged a look. "We would've been here on time if we had just taken the train, moron," Lily whispered to his partner. A flash of guilt crossed his face, but soon disappeared.
"I couldn't handle being sick anymore, and it's not like I knew she was expecting us!" Shooting a glare at his cat, Gajeel tiptoed to the table, tasted the noodles and shrugged. "A bit burnt, but not too bad I guess," he claimed. Oh so gently, he shook Levy's shoulder, careful not to startle her awake.
Her brown eyes blinked open and brightened at the sight of the man towering above her and the cat floating beside him. "Gajeel...Lily...you're back." Her smile was tired, but genuine. "It's about time, your dinner is cold by now."
Gajeel smirked, "Just as well, it's burnt anyways. How you burn noodles is beyond me, Shrimp." Levy laughed softly, but was already fading back into her slumber. "Come on, let's get you up to bed," he said as he took her in his arms. She nestled in and nodded.
"Hey Gajeel," she asked.
"Yeah?"
"I hate cooking, too much fire involved."
He smiled and kissed the top of her head, "Only when you do it, Shrimp."
