Emma ended up going to Ella's house to get ready for the dance. But mainly to hang out.
She went midafternoon and they just talked for a while. Listened to music.
Emma confided in Ella about some thoughts she had been having about Kurtz. And how she felt about it. Ella wore a knowing smirk the whole time.
"I called it. Just gonna out that out there." Ella said as she blended her eyeshadow. Emma sighed and collapsed back against Ella's bed.
"I'm just scared. He's like my best friend. I don't wanna ruin that." Emma said. Ella sighed and turned to her.
"If you're scared, then give it some time. But if I'm honest, I'm almost positive he feels the same." Ella said. Emma sighed and glanced at her phone as it lit up. Notifying her of a text. Kurtz.
"Are you at Ella's?" The message read.
"Elle, Kurtz just messaged me asking if I was here." Emma said. Ella smiled.
"Good, tell him to come over. I texted Kai and ask him to come over and bring Kurtz." Ella said. Emma's eyes widened and she squeaked. She looked down at herself. She was ready for the dance. She wasn't in her normal comfort zone with her outfit.
"I don't want him to see me like this! I look ridiculous!" Emma cried. Ella giggled and plopped on the bed next to Emma.
"You look amazing. And Kurtz is gonna think you look amazing too, okay?" Ella reassured her. Emma nodded shyly and texted Kurtz back. Letting him know that she was infact, at Ella's house.
Emma slid off the bed and fixed her makeup a bit. She sighed and stared at herself in the mirror. Her thoughts were so jumbled and her stomach twisted with nerves. No one had ever seen her like this. Pretty. She thought.
She had gotten used to hiding and now she was going to a school formal, which is almost the exact opposite of hiding.
She shook her negative thoughts away and pulled a few stray curls out of her braid to frame her face.
There was a knock at the door and Ella ran to get it. Emma held her breath as the door opened and Kurtz walked in. She turned and smiled sweetly.
"Hi." She said softly. His eyes went wide and he couldn't help but let his eyes wander over her figure.
She clasped her hands together tightly in front of her and rocked back and forth on her heals. Smiling shyly.
His ears heated up and he cleared his throat lowly.
"You're so beautiful." He said. She flushed, praying the light layer of makeup Ella had applied hid it.
"Thank you." She whispered. He took her hand and pulled her closer to him. He pressed a soft kiss to the top if her head and smiled.
Ella smirked and pulled her phone out and snapped a photo of them. She showed Malachai, who had his head buried in her neck, peppering soft kisses along skin.
"Look how cute they." Ella squeaked. Malachai chuckled and kissed the side of Ella's head.
"Too bad their both oblivious." He said. Ella nodded and laughed softly.
Kurtz spun her around slowly, making her dress twirl. She smiled and caught herself by grabbing his shoulder.
She kissed his cheek softly and rested her head on his shoulder.
"Em, come on. I want pictures!" Ella called. Emma giggled and pulled away from Kurtz slowly.
The girls took pictures together and they left. Ella driving them to the school for the dance.
The school was filled with colorful lights, and slow music. Emma and Ella flashed each other giddy smiles before linking arms and walking in. Students and parents filled the gym slowly. Emma scanned the room slowly and spotted her brother, presumably waiting for Betty.
"I'll be right back." Emma said to Ella before running up to her brother happily. He smiled at the sight of his sister and hugged her tightly. She sighed in content and rested her chin on his shoulder.
"You look beautiful, Em." He said softly. She smiled and stepped back.
"Thanks, Jug. Ella helped me." She said. He nodded knowingly and kissed the top of her head.
"Where's Betty?" Emma asked softly, glancing around the gym. He shrugged and followed her eyes.
"Not sure, she said she'd be back in a minute." He said. She nodded slowly, considering staying with him until Betty returned. He chuckled and shook his head.
"I know that look. I'm fine. Go find your friend and have fun. I'll be fine alone for two minutes." He said. She giggled softly and nodded.
"Whatever you say, Jug. I'll see you later." She said before running back to Ella.
Less than an hour in, the dance was in full swing. The 80's music played loudly, people were dancing, talking. Emma and Ella were dancing. After quite some convincing, Ella got Emma to join her on the dance floor. It was nice. There was no fear or hesitance. They were just normal teenage girls at a school dance, boys asking them to dance, but both of them declining, drinking punch that was probably spiked.
It was like every bad, 80's high school ever made...but then the other shoe dropped. Emma watched her brother follow Betty out into the hall. Emma excused herself and called after her brother. He turned and grabbed her hand, pulling her along with him
"Jug, what's going on?" She asked quickly.
"I'm not sure, but I know something is." He said. They ran to the hall and approached the group of three, who all looked too deep in their conversation to notice the twins approach them.
"Guys...Betty, what'd going on? Why do I feel like I'm suddenly left out." Jughead asked, hesitantly walking towards the three. Betty's bloodshot eyes painfully obvious.
"Do you want to tell them or should I?" Betty asked Archie. Emma's stomach dropped and she tightened her grip on her brothers sleeve.
"Tell us what?" Emma asked. Archie and Veronica stepped forward and the pair spilled what they had been put up to. Breaking in and searching the trailer. Look to see if there was any incriminating evidence against their father, F.P. How Betty's mother put them up to it, convinced that he had something to do with Jason Blossoms death.
Just then, a group of adults, being led by Kevin rounded the corner.
"Thank goodness, there you guys are." Kevin said.
"My dad just told Mayor McCoy about your guys dad." Kevin said. Emma furrowed her brows and shifted closer to her brother.
"What about our dad?" Jughead asked. Everyone looked tense. Emma's face visibly drained of color.
"He was just arrested. For the murder of Jason Blossom." Fred said.
Jughead ran from the school and Emma stood in place. Silent. Her world crashing down around her. Just when things were looking up, things were just getting better. She gasped for air as the reality of the situation set in. She crumbled to the floor and sobbed into her hands.
Ella ran around the corner and gasped softly.
"Hey, it's me. What happened?" Ella asked softly, taking her best friends hands away from her face.
"It's my dad, Elle. They arrested him for Jason's murder." Emma whimpered, her head dropping as tears fell freely down her cheeks. She broke. She finally broke.
