mind the quality but last night i concepted a quick redesign for ky in strive. this is NOT a genderbend!!!! a little more about my thought process under the cut OK?
so personally i always thouhgt ky becoming hyper muscular between xrd and strive was really jarring... ky being more lithe compared to sol did a lot to help silhouettes stand out against each other IMO? like ever since the first guilty gear and everything. i'm also super biased towards ky's xrd design because the ponytail does so much for the design and i'm not kidding. i was actively upset when i found out that the ponytail had been chopped back off LMAO... LIKE IK KY HAD SHORT HAIR IN LIKE. ACCENT CORE, ISUKA, GG1 AND 2, X AND XX -- IDC!!! xrd showed us a beautiful world then stamped it out before our very eyes.
"ok so that explains the ponytail but the BOOBS??? you said this wasn't a genderbend!" Ky is a beautiful transgender woman to me and always has been. so much of her struggle with right and wrong and like. trying to follow the correct path vs what she wants for herself and her family speaks so much to the trans experience... Also there's something about how Bridget, a canon trans woman, is inspired to stay strong in her identity as such by Ky Kiske. That's not nothing to me!!!!!
anyway time for little design decisions. i added back in the yellow that became more prominent in xrd due to its vibrant art style, because i felt that ky's strive colour palette was kinda washed out almost? and the yellow helps to make the brown make more sense and work better as well, so it was a balancing thing. i also added a few more blue accents because uhm. ky wears primarily black in strive but it looked too samey, so having more blue to counteract that made it look more 'correct'. idk how else to describe that tho.
I also!! added her little bandana thingy back from xrd because i had NO IDEA WHAT IT WAS!!! until yesterday i shit you not.
case in point. uhmmm what else. i changed the blue crosses on the pants to yellow because the blue kinda faded on the black in the og design so i tried the yellow i was introducing elsewhere and liked it. OH. I ALSO GAVE HER BACK THE HOPE BELT. BECAUSE LIKE. THAT WAS A WAY SHE MATCHED WITH SOL BADGUY!!! THAT'S HER DAMN RIVAL!!!! WHY DOES HE KEEP FREE BUT HE LOSES HOPE!!! NUH UHHHH!!
