Kyla Willowbrook and Clark Kent in Smallville S02E10
I will always be frustrated by how the Kawatche caves remained more or less narratively relevant for the rest of Smallville after their introduction but so many of the characters related to it, starting with Kyla Willowbrook, ultimately ended up as plot fodder rather than narratively important characters. Do you know how enriching it could have been to Smallville's version of the Superman-Kryptonian mythos for Clark to be incontrovertibly connected to the land of Earth, and its indigenous peoples, rather just having the Els choose the Kents to foster him for some reason?
Of course, that would be assuming that the writers would take that storyline seriously than what they could extract from appropriation...

Let's take look at Clark's love life:
1. Kyla Willowbrook - died too soon.
2. Alicia Baker - had her flaws but she tried. Didn't deserved to be murdered.
3. Lana Lang - teen love turned into toxic and obsessive relationship.
4. Lois Lane - THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE😌
5. Lex Luthor - friends to enemies. Never got to be in relationship but they do have genetic love child together.

Summary: The devil isn't the only thing that dances beneath a pale moon at night and Martha Kent learns that the hard way when she investigates a commotion in her barn.
------------
Dancing Beneath a Pale Moon
The water faucet splashed into the kitchen sink, filling the basin and mixing with the dish soap until Martha reached over and turned it off once it was half filled. She began to clean up the evening dishes, choosing to do the chore by hand instead of using the dishwasher that was beside her. She didn't mind the machine, but sometimes it was better to do something by hand and letting yourself slip into the rhythm of a simple chore.
Jonathan and Clark had gone out to go get some snacks and a couple movies from the Blockbuster in town, leaving her at home to clean up dinner and the kitchen and get things ready for movie night. She suspected there would be at least a romcom and a sports movie among the choices, so at least it will be interesting.
Martha was looking forward to sharing the evening with her family and watching whatever they chose. After months of working nights at Lionel's office or at his manor, she needed the break and time to be with her family. She suspected that Lionel understood that but his needs came first, especially now that he was blind and relied on her to navigate the world and his business.
She wondered how he really felt about that vulnerability and dependence. She had seen a little bit of his frustration when it came to the simple things he had taken for granted and suspected he was gnawing at the bit when it came to everything else he use to do on his own. But he rarely ever showed his temper around her. For some reason known only to him, he was a lot more patient with her than he was with Dominic or even Lex.
It didn't slip past her that Lionel liked her. He made that very clear in the way he would give compliments and tell her about his wife. It was a little disconcerting that he was comparing her to Lillian Luthor, but if it made the man easier to handle, she was willing to let him. And to think that last year he had dismissed her and her concerns when their sons had been trapped inside his factory.
Martha was putting the last dish away to dry on the rack when her thoughts were interrupted by a commotion outside. She frowned when she listened and heard the distress of the cattle and horses in the barn. "Gerret's dogs better not have gotten loose again," she complained as she tossed the damp dish towel onto the counter and hurried to go fetch a flashlight and her husband's rifle.
As much as she disliked harming animals, she couldn't let her own farm animals come to harm. Hopefully her presence and a warning shot would be more than enough to chase off whatever it was that was harassing the barn animals. She couldn't wait for Jonathan and Clark to return to deal with it, so it was left to her.
Martha quickly grabbed what she needed and made sure that the rifle was loaded before stepping out onto the farmhouse porch. The screen door swung with a creak and smacked against the frame before quietly settling, the bleating of a frightened cow followed and spurred her to hurry. "I swear if Gerret's dogs kill one of my cows…" she muttered as she hurried toward the barn.
She slowed when she saw the gaping hole in one of the barn doors and hesitated in going inside. Whatever had destroyed the door had to be large and thoughts of a meteor freak filled her imagination, making her wish more than ever that her son was at least here. But the frightened scream of a horse spurred her onward as she considered her initial plan being enough too deal with whatever was in her barn.
Carefully she stepped through the hole, her heart racing inside her chest as her fear of whatever could be inside rose with each step she took. She can hear the horse screaming and kicking in it's stall, trying to get free and escape whatever it was that frightened it. That worried her the most, that this wasn't a normal person inside her barn but some animal or monster.
Martha paused at a barn pole when she heard the sound of Daisy, their dairy cow, bleat out a death cry and something savage snarled in triumph. Common sense told her that she should turn around and flee, that the animals weren't worth saving over her own life. But that wasn't who she was and she wasn't going to abandon them without trying something.
She moved closer to Daisy's enclosure, spotting the gate laying haphazardly across the breezeway after having been ripped from its hinges. Martha held the rifle a little higher when she came around the broken entry and gave a horrified gasp at what was inside. She stared, frozen in horror as something large and covered in black fur stood over the dead cow, tearing and shredding into the animal's gut and devouring flesh and organs.
The thing must have heard her for it slowly stood on its hind legs, a trail of intestines hanging from its left hand as it slowly chewed on some of it as if it was contemplating why she was here. She couldn't quite fathom what it was that she was seeing, but she had seen at least An American Werewolf in London to know that this beast was similar.
Its main body was humanoid with articulated hind legs one would expect to find on a dog or a wolf. Massive paws with clawed toes dug into the muck of the stall, giving it a balance she wouldn't have expected of something so large. There was a tail that looked like it could have been bushy at one point, protruding from its rear and lowered into a more hostile expression. Its torso was slim and human-like, except at the groin where she could see a sheathed genital and testicles to go with it. Powerful arms that ended in clawed hands hung from broad-shoulders that held a wolf-like head and was surprisingly as expressive as a human's face.
Ears flattened as it finally came to a decision about her, the intestines completely forgotten as they fell from its fanged maw and hand and the thing gave a snarl, lips curling around sharp teeth. Martha swallowed thickly as she stood there in terror, wishing now that she had listened to her instincts and fled when she had the chance. Her only hope now was to get a shot off and pray that it was enough to either kill it or frighten it off.
She raised the rifle just as the thing lunged at her. The weapon gave a loud rapport as it was fired and she heard a wounded yelp from the monster. It wasn't enough to stop it and it seemed to only make it more angry. She tried to turn away and run but the beast was already on her before she could so much as take a step.
She fell to the hay strewn floor just outside of the stall and tried to scramble back to her feet. Martha cried out in terror and screamed in pain as fangs sank into her shoulder. It released her and she took the opportunity to crawl away. She didn't dare to look back to see what it was doing or if it was following her, her thoughts racing with every heartbeat for her son to show up and save the day.
For anybody to come to her rescue.
A clawed hand grabbed her by the leg and pulled her back suddenly, eliciting a terrified cry from her as she stared up at the beast while it loomed over her. It had settled onto all fours, standing over her as if lording its victory over its future meal. It lowered its head down to her and she could smell the stench of death and decay in every breath as saliva dripped onto her torn dress shirt where it had bitten into her shoulder.
Martha closed her eyes against the inevitable, wishing to not see her gruesome death and mentally apologizing to her husband and son for being so foolish. Then, much to her surprise, the thing stopped growling at her and began sniffing.
She didn't dare open her eyes as she felt something wet and leathery press against her face and inhale deeply before moving down her body. When the thing took a claw and began ripping the buttons off her shirt, did she finally look to see what it was doing. It, or rather he, pressed his muzzle against her chest and inhaled again before giving an approving chuff that left her confused.
A claw deftly ripped apart the bra she was wearing and her eyes widened as she realized what he wanted.
She had seen and experienced many things throughout her life and living in Smallville, especially when it came to her son and the strange happenings that involved the meteor rocks. She had come to expect the strange and weird. However, being forced by a werewolf was not one of those things she would have ever expected to happen in this small town.
"No!" she protested and tried to keep her clothing together. He growled and brought his muzzle closer to her face again before sniffing once more. His nose pressed against her neck and she felt something thick and wet press firmly against her throat and realized he had licked her. Why had this monster suddenly decided he would rather devour her carnally than as a meal?
Still terrified to her wits end, she watched as the monster pulled back and sat on his hunches above her. She refused to look between his legs, not wanting to know if he was turned on by this or not. He turned his head to the side, ears pointed up as if in curiosity or confusion and she imagined he was trying to figure out something that only he knew.
That's when she saw his eyes and how green and human they were, and clouded enough that she suspected he was partially blind. It wasn't something she would have expected to see from something so deadly and frightening. He sniffed the air again and lowered himself back above her, his nose pressed against her chest once more as he tasted her skin with another of his leathery licks. It was almost like being licked by a huge dog.
He chuffed a couple times and then gave a pathetic whine before pressing his head against her, rubbing against her good shoulder as if asking for her forgiveness. Something about her was familiar to him and an insane thought came to her mind with what she already knew about the monster.
"It can be," she murmured, eyes widening in terrified awe at the possibility. Martha considered something she knew was completely insane, but she had to know. Slowly she raised the hand of her good arm and pressed it against the side of his head and watched in amazement as he turned and pressed into her hand as if he couldn't get enough. "Oh my god…"
"Missus Kent," an unexpected voice called out to her and the beast stiffened before straightening onto all four. She heard him growl and then snarl savagely at the intruder. Standing several feet away with an odd looking rifle in hand was the last person she expected to see or come to her rescue.
"Lex," she breathed in relief.
"I want you to get behind me the moment you are able to," her employer's son commanded as he raised the rifle toward them. He didn't flinch as the werewolf, for what else could she call him now that she knew, rose up onto its hind legs and roared at the billionaire. He didn't get a chance to lunge at the threat before the weapon fired and something large struck him in the chest.
The beast staggered back and swiped away the offending thing sticking out of him. A second dart hit him in the shoulder and Martha could see the beast stagger slightly again as the chemicals began to work on him. She suspected tranquilizers, enough to put down an elephant probably. She doubted Lex would use deadly force on his father if he could avoid it.
He staggered away from her and Martha took the chance to scramble back to her feet and flee toward Lex. "Don't hurt him," she pleaded and saw Lex's face hardened as he understood she knew the truth or at least who this creature was. How he had come to be like this, she didn't know but was going to ask for answers later once everything was under control again.
"That was the plan," he said back and aimed at his father again.
The patriarch of the Luthor family dropped to a knee, his breathing heavy and shallow as he fought against the tranquilizers. They watched together as he gave one last snarling roar before falling over into a tangled mess of fur and limbs. His breathing slowed into a steady rhythm of deep sleep. Lex waited a few moments longer to be sure that the tranquilizers were doing the job before he cautiously approached the unconscious monster.
"What happened to him?" Martha asked as he carefully nudged his father in the side with a foot.
"I don't know." Lex lowered the rifle he had and reached into his coat for a phone.
It was then that she noticed he had scratches on his face and his clothing was torn. "He attacked you?"
"At first," Lex revealed with a nod. "Then, like with you, he seemed to recognize me and stopped. A good thing too, because I would have been his first victim tonight."
Martha held her arms close as she stared at the creature that was Lionel Luthor, wondering how he became like this. She suspected the meteor rocks were involved but from what she understood of them, they usually mutated people on what their environment was or what was happening to them. When would have Lionel been around wolves or hurt by one?
"Are you alright though?" she had to ask and met his weary gaze with a concern only a mother would have.
Lex dialed a number into his phone and brought it to his ear, "I will be fine. You?" He frowned as he took in her shoulder. "You're hurt."
"Before he recognized me," she reassured and then took a look at her own shoulder. The bleeding had stopped, but she was covered in her own blood down her arm and side. "I will probably need stitches, but the wound doesn't feel deep."
"Still, we should get you to the medical center just in case." She could see he was worried and there was something that resembled guilt writ in his expression. Did he feel responsible for what happened tonight? Was he responsible for what happened to his father? She knew LuthorCorp dealt in genetic research, but could they have inadvertently exposed themselves to a project they lost control of? "Are Jonathan and Clark alright? I haven't seen them."
At the reminder of her family, Martha tried not to think about how the two men would react once they learn what had happened and the Luthors' involvement. She knew Jonathan would be irate and Clark would blame Lionel mostly. "They were in town getting snacks and movies for tonight."
Lex seemed to relax at that news, pleased to know that the people he considered friends were safe. "Good. I'll have someone stay behind to inform them of your whereabouts."
Martha looked to the unconscious werewolf, "What will you do with him?"
"Take him home and pray the wine cellar is strong enough to hold him until I can get better accommodations arranged." Lex stepped aside for a moment to speak into his phone as whoever he had been calling finally picked up. While he made arrangements to clean up his family's mess, Martha went over to Lionel and crouched down next to him.
He looked so much more peaceful when he was asleep and it was hard to visualize the monster that had slaughtered her dairy cow and nearly killed her. Delicately she ran her fingers along the ridge of his brow and his ears twitched in his sleep in response. "What happened to you?" she whispered softly before slowly getting back up and holding her bad arm in her other hand.
She thought about how he could have ended up like this and could only think of Kyla and her attempt to murder the man as a wolf. Martha couldn't remember if he had been injured in that encounter or not, only that Kyla had died when she tried to escape Clark and the security that came to Lionel's aid. "Lex?" Martha addressed the man's son again just as he finished with his phone call. "Do you think this is related to Kyla?"
"Chief Josephs's granddaughter?" he seemed perplexed by the question but then his face lit up in understanding. "Dad was injured in his encounter with her, but I don't ever recall hearing or reading about someone becoming a werewolf after encountering a Kawachi skinwalker."
"Maybe Chief Joseph will know more?"
Lex came over to her and looked down at his father, "I can ask but I doubt Chief Joseph will give me the time of day after losing his granddaughter."
"Despite the things your father has done, Lionel doesn't deserve a fate like this." Martha gestured at the werewolf beside them.
Lex was quiet for a moment, "No, even the devil deserves better. I will talk to him, see what I can find out. In the meantime, I would like to keep this between us and my security detail."
"Jonathan and Clark will want to know what happened," she pointed out.
"Tell them a rather large, rabid dog attacked you?" Lex raised an eyebrow. "Its technically not a lie."
Martha gave him a look and he gave a simple, small smile in return.
