The Feeling of...
waking up in a Gridania inn room in your fat cat attire.
The art piece shown here known as the Flower Bomber was Painted by Banksy and featured in his 2005 book Wall and Peace. It depicts a man similar to those that appear at riots with their face covered and ready to start trouble. Normally they throw Molotovs but it was swapped out with a bouquet of flowers.
The actual painting resides Jerusalem and was painted shortly after the events of a gay pride parade. In 2005, the parade was stormed by anti gay protesters which resulted in three people getting stabbed any many more bruised and beaten. Many who have studied Banksy and his work know that the man is very anti war as well as a pacifist. Some believe that he painted this piece as a symbol for the events that happened that day or for the constant unrest of violence that occurs in the Middle East.
The image is really a symbol of seeing something from a different point of view. If you were to look at the man in the image face first you would only see a man the looks violent but from the side you see that they’re harmless as they’re throwing flowers. This could have a deeper meaning as to where some view being gay as a moral sin and that all those who are need to be punished when in reality they’re harmless and want to live just a normal life as you.
Even while painting this piece Banksy was seen as a demonstration of his art piece. As a story goes, some soldiers came across him as he was tagging the wall. They asked him what he was doing as he replied “Art” after a round of words the soldiers raised their weapons demanding to know what he was painting and all Banksy said was “You’ll have to wait and see.” After that the soldiers went on their was and let him to his own devices.
How you live your life is really all a matter of perspective. You will see yourself differently everyday as you will other people but just because someone or something appears one way doesn’t that they are what you seem. You’re view is a very powerful thing and if you’re not careful you may just end up where you don’t desire.
Everyone has a dream and each dream is different from the next. Some desire power, some want to be lawyers and some just want to the kindest person in the room. Though there are times when you have to put your dreams on hold for something else.
The image shows a common working man putting a sign that is reminiscent of a foreclosure sign across the phrase “Follow your Dreams”. It’s a viewpoint of the how some see the world. After a certain point in life you will learn that your dreams are just that, dreams. And abandoning them for a basic desk or labor job is far easier than following them to the end. It’s an ideology that’s commonly adopted in the states as well as around the globe. You want to be the next best whatever but you find out that it’s not as easy as one predicted. So just giving up and conforming societies needs rather than you.
In this piece is the depiction of a homeless man who has had enough. He doesn’t even bother to ask for money but rather for something to happen, something to change.
Change is something that everyone desires, primarily for the good but sometimes for the bad. The use of someone who’s homeless is a prime demonstration of someone who wants to change their predicament. Whether it’s to get a hot meal or a place to sleep.
We all say that we need and want change but most of the time we are willing to trade change for something that is temporary much like food or a bed. That’s why the man not asking for coins is so symbolic. He doesn’t want a substitute or something that will last the day but be gone tomorrow. He wants something to happen. Now whether it’s for the good or bad that’s up for interpretation but it seems that if you want change you need to stop asking for substitutes.
This image depicts a rat dressed in a tie holding a suitcase full of money. The Rat is suppose to represent a businessman or politician, the type of people the society views as the vermin of the world. They are seen as schemers, hoarders, selfish and thieves. These are the kind of people that will take everything you own or ruin your life and not even bat an eye.
The quote “Let them eat crack” is a play on words. It’s insinuating to let the public think what they want to think and squabble amongst themselves to try and find a solution to why they’re still poor. They want the public to turn against each other while the rats rake in all of the money. Still leaving the public with little or nothing but with all the issues that they were arguing about before.
