Waking up in some odd mansion with a mask stuck to her face somehow wasn't the oddest thing that had happened to Lily. It wasn't any odder than getting pregnant mid-war, or discovering magic, or losing her sister to something she couldn't change. Keeping calm seemed the least she could do.

"Sorry," she told someone with the most familiar eyes, "I don't have potions on me, and nothing we've tried yet works. Don't claw at it okay? You'll only hurt yourself and I'd really rather not have that happen."

“So I met your stalker.” Lily said, tugging on Dallas’s sleeve to get him to sit down with her. Honestly she would have gone looking for Dallas’s creepy bar friend even if he hadn’t asked her to, but she was glad that she had. It was better to know who had their eyes on her friends, after all. “I don’t know if I like him much.”

Leia wasn’t actually a bouncer, but they did toss anyone out of the bar when Dallas frowned at them too long. Or if they leered at any of their crew too long, honestly. Okay maybe Laser moonlit as an unofficial bouncer for a very select group of people. 

“You sure you don’t want me to kick him out?” Laser asked, squinting at a particularly annoying drunk with distaste. “I won’t make a scene this time.”

Emmeline didn’t often fall asleep in public. Sometimes she didn’t even fall asleep at her own house. Maybe it was a testament to how hard she’d worked herself lately when she found herself waking up facedown in a pile of books. Merlin she hadn’t done this since school.

“Sorry! Sorry, I promise I don’t normally-- fall asleep on the books. Sorry.”

Without Bellatrix, there was a gaping thing inside of Hana. Bellatrix had killed Virgil, and it felt wrong to want to find something that could possibly honor that legacy; but doing nothing felt even worse. There were only two people Hana knew who could fit the idea she had in mind, and one of them was currently playing Quidditch.

“Alecto.” Hana said, eyes sharp. “I want you to teach me how to fight.”

Staying in the same room as Benjy had been getting easier and easier. Sybill, as usual, had been right. Noah was out ‘at work’ (and Gil would definitely have to follow up with him about work’s name) which meant they had the place to themselves. Gil had done them the favor of not cooking and picking up their old usual from the place near by. 

“Guess who’s finally got a job!” He said, holding out Benjy’s box. “We’re celebrating.”

So apparently telling the server ‘he felt like death warmed over’ hadn’t gone down nearly as well as planned. The only thing worse than his awful hangover (besides the knowledge that Lexi looked worse) was the gnawing fear in his gut.  There had been a battle. A huge, horrid battle, and he’d missed the entire thing. 

Benjy. He had to check on Benjy. 

And Doris, and Reggie, and Kiernan and Sybil. 

But Benjy first. Always, Benjy first.

“Benj?” He called the minute he opened the door, scanning the house with wild eyes, “Are you home? Are you alright?”

“Oh now this is a weird feeling.” Gilderoy said, one arm thrown around Benjy’s shoulders as he gazed around the familiar halls. It was so odd being back here.  But at least having Benjy be his side hadn’t changed. Coming without him would’ve been unthinkable. “Do you think they still have my graffiti on the wall of the dorm? Pretty sure it said something about my hair... or my arse...”
