Onesies Forever
If you are curious to know what the absolute ONE thing every parent needs to stock up on before baby, it is, without a doubt, The Onesie.
I don't care where you live, what your diaper plan is, breast v. bottle, etc. Every baby needs at least a billion onesies. Get em in each age increment (maybe not newborn; if your baby comes out small then make a Target run) And have fun with the styles and colors. Or get creative and buy plain ones and some fabric markers. Have at least 5-10 for each age group also. Cuz aint nobody got time to do laundry everyday. Teags uses anywhere from 1-3 onesies a day. You gotta change that shit every time she spits up all over herself to avoid rash, if she gets poo or pee on it, and obviously after a bath. Sleepers and footsies are great too if you've got cooler weather happening but man, I tell ya, the onesies win.
Here's a collection of onesies that don't suck. I don't currently own any of these, but there's plenty of time to add them to the repertoire.
I love dinosaurs. Always have, always will. Don't matter if you've got a girl or boy, DINOS ROCK!
Like the true Californian that I am, I LOVE CHEESEBURGERS from In N Out. This Double Double Onesie is making me all kinds of hungry and reminds me of the pregnant days when I could actually finish one without that feeling of shame afterward. Good times.
Must. have. Grumpy. Cat. Onesie.
They really are. Sorry.
The Anti-Sancimommy
Cute and hilarious.
Come on, you all know this to be true.
THAT Kid
Had our first dinner outing where Iggy just would not chill out. And it was at a very snooty sushi place that kept trying to insist we couldn’t fold up our stroller and put it in the corner. They wanted me to put it outside! There are all types of bums and drunk people wandering around that particular shopping center; there was no way. So her incessant cries only made my anxiety that much worse. I held her and walked back and forth in front of the establishment shushing as loudly as I could over firetruck wails and cars bumping their bass so loud it shook the ground.
It made for a very stressful evening to say the very least. By the time I was able to sit down and scarf down the “high end” cuts I was so hungry I hardly tasted anything.
I don’t think we’ll be attempting that again for a while. She clearly isn’t aware that moms need to eat too. And the side-eyed stank we got from the chef and waiter didn’t do much to help matters.
It was a push right into the reality that I am indeed a mom. And this will likely not be the last time I have to excuse myself from a situation to console a screamer. Great.
9 Weeks
Iggy is 9 weeks old tomorrow.
My anxiety is at an all-time high.
She will be at the age that Rowan was when she got sick. Two weeks later, she was gone.
Every doctor we’ve talked to has told us the same thing; that the chances of something like that happening again is 1 in a million. I wish that opinion was more reassuring, but it isn’t.
I’d like to think that after tomorrow passes by, i’ll be able to breathe a little easier. And every day passing from then on a bit more.
I’m sure all parents who have lost a child feels something similar. Just waiting around to breathe. It’s not an easy thing to put out of your mind.
Starting tomorrow, everything we experience from then on will be brand new to us. Every milestone she hits and every new breath she takes.
Looking at her this morning I can’t help but feel this intense pain. I imagine what my life would be like if I lost her too; if she were to suddenly be taken from me like her sister was.
Life would end. I couldn’t survive through that again.
I think the fact that Jake and I were able to come through that tragedy the way that we did is as close to a miracle as I’ll ever experience. To have been able to lean on each other. That we managed to smile again is beyond what I could have hoped for.
Here we are. On the precipice of a whole new journey. It starts tomorrow.
I doubt i’ll sleep a wink tonight.
Where all the hipster parents at?!
For reals. I can’t be the only late twenties, music loving, film watching, craft beer drinking mom on the Eastside can I?! Silverlake can’t just be filled with childless hipsters right?…
Talking to a friend this morning, she shared her recent park experience with her 6 month old. She said a woman in her late thirties with a one year old straight up baby talked her while the kids were swinging.
Um no. Not gonna fly with me. If that’s the type of scene I have to look forward to when Iggy is outside-ready then no thanks.
The problem is that there isn’t exactly a parent group in our area that caters to a specific type of parent, like the ever elusive “hipster” parent. I know it’s a faux paus to even claim hipsterdom but come on…. I know you’re out there. And I know you feel like you’re the only one who wants to have your craft ale and drink it too.
I’m here! I will totes be your friend. And we can chill out in our retro-chic apartments and blast Empire of the Sun while the little ones make drooly faces at eachother and grow up to be bestest hipster baby friends.
Get at me.
I can't wait to start making our way through this list!
