CocoaHeads Miami - Swift Meetup Success

Yesterday, CocoaHeads Miami held the first of multiple sessions discussing new iOS 8 development tools and features, beginning with Swift, Apple’s new programming language for iOS and OS X.

TS#1: And a fun time was had by all!

Thanks to everyone who came out & made our inaugural Tech Swizzle such a success! Representatives of the tech, business & art scenes really mixed their business & their pleasure with lots of style.

Take a look at the picture above and you'll notice what appears to be a little brain on the left, and then the same picture without anything obstructing the text on the right. But look a little closer at the text on the right...

    What if you could see right into the brain or other organs and see what was going on? Well, scientists have found a way to make the brain (and other organs) transparent without damaging them in any way. The lead scientists even has a transparent heart, lung, and liver on his desk!

    Take a look at the picture above again, the picture on the right is a rat brain post-procedure.

    After the procedure is done, fluorescent dyes can be used to highlight specific structures which can then be studied in 3D, shedding light on a lot of afflictions that affect the brain such as autism, schizophrenia, alzheimer's, and more.

Considering Google has already driven down 5 millions miles of road and gathered over 20 petabytes (that's 20,480 terabytes, or about 21M GB's) of Street View imagery, it's no surprise that some creative minds have created an amazing hyperlapse using some of this data. A tipping point is a point in time when a group–-or a large number of group members--rapidly and dramatically changes its behavior by widely adopting a previously rare practice.

Author Malcolm Gladwell popularized the term in popular culture with his best selling book: The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference.

This video is an oldie, but goodie, that shows a classic example of tipping phenomena: at first there are only a few early adopters, but eventually a large mob joins the effort all at the same time, the tipping point, after which there are a few late adopters.
