Chapter 18 is almost done. It'll probably be Sunday or Monday when I post it!!
Also, this is going to be a political rant because I'm currently writing about colonialism.
The vast majority of US citizens are completely detached from the colonialism that our government has committed since its foundation.
The theft of Indigenous land, the genocide of Indigenous peoples, and the extraction of their resources.
The countless wars and coups that have destabilized sovereign nations in South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
The propaganda that America is the best nation in the world brings the people here who were harmed through colonialism. Hoping to have a happier life, they get treated as lesser than human.
Here's the thing about colonialism: it's global.
Europe benefits from our violence through the extraction of resources and immigration, just as much as we benefit from Europe's own colonialism.
Cheap, desperate labor is easier to exploit than your local union man. Which is morally and ethically wrong, but when have capitalists cared about that?
Then the media and government turn around and scapegoat the people who came here for a better life when the government is failing from its own ineptitude.
Meanwhile, the dude driving his lifted Dodge Ram and waving his Confederate flag votes for the government to fail because he lacks the bandwidth to think beyond NASCAR and his lawnmower.
Here's the thing: he's just as much a victim as he is a perpetrator, because the government doesn't invest in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
It invests in the military-industrial complex to destabilize, invade, destroy, extract, and exploit.
It's honestly disgusting how the system works to benefit itself.
