The way we access a space: La Congiunta

In the picturesque valley between the Swiss Alps there is a small village called Giornico. In 1992 a new building was constructed there. This building was a museum by two Swiss architects Peter Märkli and Stefan Bellwalder. 

The museum was called La Congiunta (“a joint” in Italian). And it was built to expose the artworks of Swiss sculptor Hans Josephsohn.

This building has a lot of interesting features. And one of them is how visitors  access it. There are no ticket office and no security guards. To enter a building you need to have a key to an only door.

The key to the building ‹La Congiunta› can be got in the ‹Osteria› on the main street in the center of the Giornico village.

This way of accessing a building gives a new perspective on understanding how people treat public and private. This building is an example when it is hard to identify whether it is private or public, or something in the middle.
