Research Day
Today was mostly uneventful as far as tourism goes. I was at the library all day...well, I slept in and then got to the library at like 11AM. I fixed this blog with the far superior British Library wifi, had lunch, and then settled down to read some really old books. Here’s my favorite passage from today:
“There is nothing that becommeth a maid better than sobernes, silence, shamefastnes, and chastitie, both of bodie and mind. For these things being once lost, she is no more a maid, but a strumpet in the sight of God, howsoever shee disguiseth hir selfe, and dissembleth with the world.” -Thomas Bentley, The Fift Lampe of Virginitie, 1582.
Strumpet it is, I guess!
After the library, I went and met my friend Abby for a drink in the understated Covent Garden. It was very fun catching up and hearing about her first year living here.
For dinner, I walked to a restaurant my sister suggested up Bethnal Green called Mission. It was very nice. I had a lovely pasta and tried two wines. Both were good.
Overall, kind of uneventful, but it was a nice day. I ordered a ticket to see Matilda the musical for Wednesday night, so I’m looking forward to that. Tomorrow, I plan to go to either the Victoria and Albert Museum or the National Portrait Gallery in the afternoon and Notting Hill in the evening. Actual writing will commence in the morning.
