A vision splendored "lady mountain" ... Alaska

In Zion National Park, you’ve hiked up Angels Landing and Observation point, but the original route to the rim from the canyon was the Lady Mountain Trail. It climbed 2600 feet in just under 2 miles. It featured chain and ladders and was far more sketchy than any part of Angels Landing. Eventually the NPS removed the hardware and stopped maintaining the trail, but the route still remains. 

It now requires a length of rope or webbing, lots of 3rd and 4th class scrambling, and a couple moves of 5.5 or so. There are eyebolts, cut steps, and some painted arrows left over to help you know you’re on route. It is a fun adventure climb for those with the knowledge, and a great way to escape the crowds on Angels Landing. The next time you’re on the lawn of the Zion Lodge, look across the river at Lady Mountain and try to find the line.

Lady Mountain "hike". Historically, it was the first trail constructed to the rim of Zion canyon and featured railings, steps, and cables. After several were injured and killed it was closed and the cables removed. Now it is a second class "climb" consisting of hiking, scrambling, a bit of chimneying and two or three moves of fifth class climbing. The summit gives a wonderful view of the canyon and it makes a great day of adventure in the park away from the crowds. (II 5.6)
