"dog in the orbit" - me :3
in honour of laika day i wrote this poem
They told me you we're a brave dog, Laika.
But we're you still brave after they locked you in your metal grave?
Did you still wag your tail when they flew you into the endless black space?
you we're simply a stray dog they found who obeyed all their commands.
You didn't bite, didn't growl or act up. Simply commited to all their demands.
You thought you we're going to find a home, even met one of the humans kids.
But they didn't give you a home, they gave you a place to stay while they messure you. To make sure the spaceship fits.
To make sure when you end up in the dark, with only loose stars to give you hope.
So that u will be able to breathe just long enough to look at earth as if through a tiny kalejdoscope.
For them to declare that you we're the first dog in space, but at what cost, Laika?
Was all the pain, loneliness and cruelty worth the post cards with your face on them?
And even in your final moments, when they asked for forgiveness, you couldn't understand.
Beacouse all you recognized was the human you trusted, giving a new unknown command.
Today, November 3, is Laika Day. I would like to remind those who have accused me of crying when I think about the story of Laika: You cannot prove that. This beautiful graphic novel by Nick Abadis was published in 2007 by First Second Books.
3/11 - LAIKA day and offers = laika Day and offers = go= https://thinkfv.wordpress.com/2024/11/03/3-11-laika-the-space-dog-and-her-sacrifice/ #laikaDAY #OFFERS #HEROdog #sputnik2 #gift
It's Laika Day everyone, time to cry listening to Jonathan Coulton's Space Doggity
I dream of you in the night
And when I wake, I tend not to remember
But I do remember one thing
From my seemingly endless slumber
The name Laika
That stray dog who was put into that space vessel, not knowing what was to come
That beautiful, otherworldly creature
I see her in the stars sometimes
And I wonder
Did she think of home?
Did she think of the soft earth and wet grass in her final moments?
I may not know
But I do know that she will forever be remembered.
Laika.
If any of y'all need more reasons to cry about it being Laika Day...
