Teenager Lakeith Smith Sentenced To 65 Years For Death Of Friend Killed By Cop In 2015 Smith, then 15, broke into two homes with four other teens in Millbrook, Alabama. After being confronted by police, one of the teenagers, A’Donte Washington, engaged in a shootout with an officer and was killed during the gunfire. Lakeith Smith did not have a gun and did not shoot at anyone, yet he was charged with the death of his friend. PETITION JUSTICE FOR LAKEITH SMITH Since Lakeith Smith was 15 when the burglary was committed, he could have been handled in the juvenile justice system. However, the prosecutor decided to prosecute Lakeith as an adult. And once a person is transferred to adult court, Lakeith is permanently outside of juvenile court jurisdiction.
