If you try to take pictures of old entrance doors of Venice, something unexpected will happen to you. I cannot tell you what, maybe a tourist will drop with a yelp her expensive camera lenses on worn cobblestones, a dog will startle you with an angry bark from a nearby alley, or a window behind will burst open to shower you with Italian bursts... sometimg will happen and by the time you look again at the old door, the building around it is... gone. Oh but your door is still there. The name tags are still there, windows above it still firmly shut behind cold shutters, even the house cabling still visible, hanging on withered balconies or just on... air, but the building itself is gone. Gone into another dimension or just transparent, no way to say. If stubborn you still tries to take a picture of the missing walls your camera will promptly malfunction. Nothing usual nowadays either - maybe an alarm will sound, vibration keeping it from focus, or the trigger button will feel a tiny bit shifted to the right, just enough to press shutdown instead... But when you finally manage to restart it, the building is there. Again. In your face. You can't tell anybody about this, of course not, even less the locals, they will call you crazy and look at you condescendingly. But how much do they actually know? Are they hiding something, fully aware of your astonishment?
No, you won't find your answer in a beer. As delicious as this West Coast IGA Italian/USA collaboration Lambrate/Stone beer is, as much complexity as the added grapes committed to the fruity IPA body, in the end it's just that, a beer, and very few answers are found in beer. Only thoughts, maybe surprises, definitely hopes to see that glimpse of a dream world again, one day. One day...
