How/when do the Lan → NIGHT-HUNT?

Is this why Cangse Sanren, Wèi Changze, and Jiang Fengmian almost died?

Because the Lan had to go to bed????

I know, (in the extras) LWJ and WWX night-hunt at night, but that's in the aftermath of the events. Who can say them nay?

What about before?

Not that we ever see a real night-hunt in the whole novel.

Phoenix Mountain is clearly staged (with spiritual prey let loose by the Jin). And: it takes place during the day!

Before that:

Discovery of the Waterborne Abyss (by mistake, technically not a night-hunt).

Night-hunting during Indoctrination Conference (not shown or described except for the Xuanwu at Dusk Creek - which starts in full daylight; and, when they are alone in the caves, Lan Wangji sleeps at nine ...

Lan juniors night-hunt at Mo Manor (starts during the day but clearly will take place in the night), and then with WWX and LWJ following the arm (exempted from the rules by our untamed duo ?).

Making noise is not allowed in the Cloud Recesses.

云深不知处 - Cloud Recesses

内 - inside; interior; inner part or side

不 - [before a verb, adjective, adverb] no; not; won't; not want to

可 - can; to approve; to permit

不可 - cannot; should not; must not

喧 - make noise; noisy

哗 - make an uproar; be noisy

喧哗 - confused noise; hubbub; clamor; make an uproar; make a racket

Alternative translations:

Being noisy is not allowed in the Cloud Recesses.

Creating a racket is not allowed inside the Cloud Resesses.

(I have to say I kind of like the last one when it comes to Wei Wuxian 😄.)

云深不知处内不可杀生

Yúnshēn Bùzhīchù nèi bùkě shāshēng.

Killing is not allowed in the Cloud Recesses.

可 - can; to approve; to permit

不可 - cannot; should not; must not

杀 - kill; slaughter; butcher; fight; go into battle; weaken

生 - give birth to; bear; generate; be born; come into existence

杀生 - take animal life; to take the life of a living creature; to take life of any conscious being

(In Buddhism, the taking of human life offends against the major commands, of animal life against the less stringent commands.)

Alternative translations:

One must not take the life of any conscious being inside the Cloud Recesses.

Ok. This rule is, at least in my mind, so strongly associated with Wei Wuxian teasing Lan Wangji with the rabbits and threatening to have them roasted, that I just had to jump into the manhua 🙂. I did try to find screencaps from CQL that I could use, but as the whole rabbit-thing plays out differently and we unfortunately got no gay rabbits there, it did not really work out. Besides, Lan Wangji's flustered, desperate face-palm is glorious 🩵😄.
