Davis knew that Kenna had said she didn’t want to be involved, but that was before. Things were different now. And he had no reason to believe that Kenna wouldn’t side with her cousin on this one, but Davis was desperate, and this was too important not to try. So he stalked near the door to the kitchen, and as soon as he saw Kenna approaching to get a new tray of food, he pounced.

“Oh hey, you can sit here. Unless you want the other seating space where you’re stuck next to a guy that looks like he’ll hurl any minute. You won’t have to share with me too long, I just needed to give my feet a break.”

“I’m sorry, what? I- uh... Were you talking to me, or? I think I might just have zoned out for a minute,” said Hazel and turned to look at the person closest to her. “I mean look at this place! Have you ever seen anything like it before? It’s like the inside of a jewellery designers head.”

“Oh shit!” Emma twists her arm around to have a better look at her elbow, searching for any visible signs that she just accidentally poked a piece of cake with it. “God — why am I even wearing a white dress? Hopefully I’ll learn from this mistake,” she says to the person standing next to her. “Can you tell there’s a stain on the elbow?”

    “...hey...okay, you saw that? I’ve had enough champagne and too much of that eggnog brandy mix maybe but....I didn’t imagine that right? He did have lights in his pants and stuffed that whole cheese platter in his pockets...you saw that right?”

             “Oh, hey—- fair warning,” Ida said to the person walking towards the door she had just emerged from herself. “If you want some fresh air, you should definitely try another balcony or exit. There’s an old guy, real Trump looking, making out with this woman out there, and let me tell ya; saliva everywhere, so just...beware.”

“No!” Immediately grabbing the last brownie from the platter and stuffing it into his mouth, he turned to the other person with a smug grin on his face, chocolate smearing his teeth. “I’m sorry. I had to,” he said, voice muffled, and his tone far from apologetic. While he was usually one to share, he had a particular weakness for desserts.

Neal was not used to events where he wasn’t in his formal army uniform. He liked to avoid places like this because of his anxiety but like his therapist said he needed to keep pushing himself and trying new things that made him nervous. Plus going with Freya as a couple would be very nice. “This is not my usual scene.” A small laugh escaped his lips.
