"When I was going to study abroad in Ireland my Grandfather did offer to teach me a few Irish phrases. My Grandmother, knowing his sense of humor, forbade that. Knowing he'd teach me to say things that would not mean what he told me they meant.
Similar to: When my Grandmother was working as a nurse in a sanatorium the nurses asked her to teach them some comforting Irish phrases to say to the dying Irishmen. So she taught them how to say "Give me a kiss". Without telling them that's what it meant."
