Polyglot language tag!
Instead of making a video, I'll write my answers here. I got the idea from the video with the same name by Lindie Botes and thought the questions were really interesting, so let's go!
# what do you consider to be your native language? Brazilian Portuguese
# what was your first language learning experience? My parents thought it would be a good idea to teach me English at home, so I had contact with English from early on, though it was never as fluent as Portuguese
# what languages have you studied and why did you start them? German, because it was a school subject; Polish, because I found out I have Polish ancestors; French, because one day my mom just came home with a French book-and-cd course for me and said "just learn it"; Japanese, because my sister started Japanese classes and I thought the method was really interesting; Georgian, Turkish, Chinese, Hungarian and Czech, because my university offers free classes, so it was more about the opportunity, and Turkish has a special place in my heart now (I pretend It's my Major); Hindi, because I love Bollywood; Malayalam, long story; Malay, Croatian and Finnish, because I found free online courses, so also opportunity; Korean, because I have a friend whose Major is Korean and she always takes me to Korean events so I became interested; Arabic, because I always had a thing for arabic, it sounds so beautiful; Guaraní, because I found out Duoling has Guaraní when you change the source language to Spanish andalso because my mom bought me a Guaraní book (mom♡); Spanish, because it sounds sexy and I need it for my job
# how does your personality affect how you learn languages? I get over excited about stuff at first, so with languages it always happens as a couple weeks of intense studying of a new language, which is a great start and gets me out of the super basic level kinda fast
# do you prefer learning languages in a class or individually? Individually, definetly. Classes have their pros but progress is way slower for me. I also feel more "pressured" to do well if I have a teacher specially for myself
# what are your favourite language learning materials? I feel I learn a lot when I write, so probably exercise lists
# how much time do you spend actively learning per day/week? Way less then I'd like to, about 5 hours per week on a good week. I do a lot of passive learning, specially with music
# what are your short term and long term language learning goals? Short term would be finishing my Japanese, Czech, Hungarian and Turkish courses till the end of 2018. Long term is having a decent conversational Hindi and finding better ways to integrate all these languages in my life, so I use them continually
# what is your favourite language? It changes from time to time, but right now I'm really enjoying Hindi and French. German is always close to my heart too.
# what is the next language you want to learn? Romanian, Punjabi, Norwegian
# what advice can you give to new language learners? Just start it, one year from now you'll be happy you did it
So that's it! ☆
