Sonic The Hedgehog movie thoughts.

Everything about it felt very “1990s” in the best way

This is my favorite interpretation of Sonic. He’s a lovable dork as opposed to the edgy, extreme mascot he was always advertised as and the movie was better for it. 

Ben Schwartz is great as Sonic. Not Jaleel White great but since I can’t have Jaleel, Ben is ok. 

James Marsden is good as Sonic’s “straight man” (I still confuse him for the dude in Smallville)

Jim Carrey is classic Jim Carrey. Totally hams it up as Robotnik.

The rules of Sonic’s speed powers were inconsistent (to me) but made for some fun scenes.

Sonic “flosses”. I knew it was coming but, ugh.

Loved the “sanic” reference

Sonic The Hedgehog is good. It’s not going to change the face of cinema or anything, but as a family comedy it’s fun to watch. Easily one of the better video game adaptations.

After months of putting it off, I finally forced myself to watch three episodes of Mega Man Fully Charged. Going to be honest, I went in 100% ready to hate-watch, and I expected the absolute drizzling squirts. Surprisingly though, it’s not half bad.

 Items of note:

This doesn’t draw from one specific series, FC is its own interpretation of Mega Man like Legends, Battle Network, ect. 

This interpretation borrows the “identity” shtick common with comic heroes in that he alternates between Mega Man and Aki (his name isn’t “Rock” here) and keeps it a secret.

Roll is replaced by Suna, Dr Light’s human daughter. Essentially the same character.

Dr. Light has dreadlocks?

Fight scenes are fun.

Mega Man can’t instantly take another robot’s power, he has to “download” it which makes for a fun plot device.

The writing team behind this is the same group behind Ben 10, so the stories are entertaining

Episodes run at about 8 minutes, minus the opening. it’s a short watch and it works in it’s favor. 

Lots of callbacks to the music from the original games

The robot bosses have their motives for going “bad” played out in 8-bit flashbacks. Put a smile on my face. 

Animation is ok, but looks like a Disney Junior show.

Overall tone is drastically lighter than Ruby-Spears’ “B-movie” tone and NT’s serious tone. Similar to Pac Man and The Ghostly Adventures.

Mega Man’s sidekick “Mega Mini” is easily the worst part of the show. Obnoxious and unnecessary.

Overall, a surprisingly decent adaptation. For me, it doesn’t compare to the other series, but as it’s own thing it’s not bad. Definitely a nice way to introduce younger kids to Mega Man before crushing their will with the actual games.

Just finished Castlevania.

The choice to make Simon a blonde pretty boy was daring, but made for a funny character.

The show doesn’t focus enough on Simon, the Belmont family, or Dracula. 

Too much focus on a side character named Captain N? WTF?

Tons of cameos from other video games. Donkey Kong, Link, Mega Man. Don’t know how they pulled it off the licensing must’ve been a nightmare

Sound effects were taken mostly from Super Mario Bros.

Despite the radical retelling of the source material, Castlevania isn’t a bad show.
