Malachite had every single window open in the building they’d chosen as they workspace for that particular month, and yet it was still sweltering. What business New York had in thinking it could be this hot, Malachite didn’t know, but they would find whatever ethereal being was responsible for this weather and eviscerate them.
Sighing, they pressed the cool glass of water to their forehead and counted backwards from twenty, just as they’d been taught. Cooling off the rather hot headed thoughts that were rampaging through his mind and making it nearly impossible to think of anything but the heat. They’d stripped off nearly every layer they had on, leaving them in the thinnest pair of linen pants, and cotton shirt they could find. The only article of clothing not sacrificed to the heat was the glove on their left hand, but that rarely, if ever, left their body for any reason but when they were working completely alone.
The sound of the door opening behind them had them sighing, and trying to figure who they would have to be kicking out today, “You better be bringing me something cool and refreshing, or you’re welcome to turn right back around this instant.”
