does anyone else make playlists for their characters?
Pretty much every single one of my characters from 2016 on have had a Spotify playlist synced up with a character concept. Is this weird? who cares it’s great
It started when I had a concept for a steampunk/post apoc. character who had invented/refurbished an old boombox and would use it in-game with CDs to provide in-game atmosphere. She’d talk between them like a radio host, it’d be a whole thing. So, I made a playlist of songs that I could make into CDs should I ever have the chance to play her!
Ever since then, every character I’ve created has gotten a playlist. My flirtatious bard got one, so did my rogue cartographer, even my fairy who wants to start an orchard did as well! Are they necessarily music-based characters? No! But I find it helps me get into their head-space easier, and stick with the concepts I’ve already created for them better.
As someone who works in professional theatres: it’s super common for actors to make playlists that can help them focus before a show. Usually this is reserved for serious dramas, but truthfully, it could work anytime. I think that might be why I, at least, find music to be super helpful when figuring backstory, or prepping for a game.
But what about y’all? Do you make playlists? What started that for you? Do you also tend to make approx. a billion?
