MC-tober Day 27: “Parents”
Larunda Maris Corbeau (née Lowell), Lua’s mum
In her early forties, probably
Free-spirited, intelligent, musically-gifted,
Was very rowdy and outspoken during her years there, but never really got in trouble, and performed well enough in her classes.
Played on the Quidditch team, as a Seeker.
Graduated from Hogwarts with average marks
Worked at a broomstick shop in Diagon Alley for three years, then at Flourish and Blotts as an assistant manager for another three.
Had aspirations of getting a career as a musician, never really met them.
Frequented the muggle shops nearby, and was particularly interested in the bookshop and record shop next to the Leaky Cauldron.
Met Garrett at a muggle rock concert, formed a fast friendship with him over a year.
She unexpectedly got pregnant with Jacob at the age of twenty-four.
While Jacob wasn’t planned, Larunda and Garrett decided to raise him together, and got married mainly to avoid being judged.
They did fall in love later, though
Larunda worked around the Statute of Secrecy to share information the Wizarding World, and her own abilities with Garrett, as she hated lying to him.
(This put their family at risk later on)
Also in his early forties or so
Was in a band in his teens; they disbanded after five years.
Was still in uni when he first met Larunda at a rock concert, and made friends with her
He knew there was something different about her, but didn’t think much of it at the time
When Jacob was born, Garrett felt it was his duty to help Larunda raise him (It might have also helped that he had already developed feelings for her)
When Larunda told him about the Wizarding World, he had trouble believing her. At first.
Then he “caught” her casting a simple spell or two, and realized it was real
Having already believed (loosely) in the supernatural, Garrett picked it up quickly, and readily kept her secret from both the muggle and Wizarding worlds.
He knew about the International Statute of Secrecy, Larunda’s wand, Hogwarts, and a few other wizardly things
He was also familiar with the First Wizarding War, and Lord Voldemort. He was rightfully horrified when Larunda told him that their runaway son, Jacob, was rumored to have joined the Death Eaters.
Following Jacob’s disappearance, the Ministry of Magic put the Corbeau family under investigation
Larunda was interviewed about Jacob, as was Garrett, albeit less intensely.
Lua was, for the most part, spared from the interrogations.
The Ministry officials sent to investigate the family were under heavy pressure from the Ministry to handle the incident as quickly as possible, due to it’s publicity and the possibly public outcry of the implication that Voldemort was still inspiring a following.
That being said, they forced Larunda to take several truth serums, which inadvertently lead to the reveal that she had been breaking the Statute of Secrecy for the past fifteen years.
The Ministry elected to punish the family for both her and Jacob’s actions
Larunda was sentenced to a year in Azkaban, which ended up severely traumatizing her.
Garrett had his memory wiped of his family, and was subtly re-integrated back into muggle society. His current whereabouts are unknown.
