The moon casts a light so gentle over his profile that Michael’s breath almost catches in his chest. They’re a long way from the time they fell in love, but in moments like these, when it’s the middle of the night and Ashton’s features and whole demeanour radiate youth and innocence, it feels like the first time Michael looked at him and realised he hadn’t thought of him as a friend in a long time.

Summary: “Can you drive?” Luke asks, picking at the skin around his nails absently, eyes still locked on Ashton. He pulls at a piece of skin hard enough that it stings, and even though he doesn’t look down, he knows it’s bleeding. The ache is minimal though, covered by numbness that refuses to let the pain breathe freely.
“Are you okay?” Ashton counters, brows furrowed deeply.
“Can you drive?” Luke says again, turning to look out the windshield, pretending Ashton isn’t there as he finally shifts the car into drive with a sigh.
“Did you remember my first gift to you?”
“Yeah, an iPod. Why is that, btw?”
“You love music.”
Last night, Squishy & I were talking about relationships. He asked me if looking back now, was I really in love with the people I dated. I honestly think that at that time it was love, looking back now I know that I was being rebellious. It is only really him that I felt strong enough to really date without any BS at all. I was not rebellious, I was already in a stable headspace when we started going out.
