Based on the true story, DeepWater Horizon is well cast, well acted, and thoroughly gripping from start to finish. For fans of big action pieces, strong dramas, and standard disaster flicks this one definitely doesn't disappoint. Great performances from Mark Whalberg and Kurt Russel help this one do much more than just stay afloat. SPLIT was the long awaited return to form for director M Night Shyamalan. As well as backdoor sequel to my favorite M Night Flick, the movie features great performances and creates an eerie atmosphere of uncertainty before finally releasing the real monster of the movie. I'll be the first to tell you, I LIKE these movies. Except for maybe Tokyo Drift. But I love the feeling that cast are friends, they have a sense of family, and that for the most part they ENJOY making these movies. F8 lacked in that department for me a little. The action was still great, the performances were still fine, but it shows that Vin and Paul were the heart and soul of this franchise and you really feel the soul missing from this one. Still a passable action flick but just not the same. Did a double feature of both of these six-do thrillers this evening...and they were GREAT! While self/less drops pretty quickly into fairly standard action movie fare, it still delivered a powerhouse performance by Ryan Reynolds as well as a pretty intriguing premise. MORGAN was intense, fast paced, and just very very good from start to finish.
