re: your reply to my tags. i could tell that you meant that to point out our shared history of colonialism and its consequences. i'm just like - tired of first worlders lumping all these countries together, as if they're not worthy of the same complexity and nuance they allow north american and european societies, you know? and i knew they would unconsciously read it that way. just had to point that out bc i'm annoying. anyways, thanks for the neccesary post and have a nice day :)
You're not annoying! I think it is super important to point out that Latin America isn't a monolith! That also is helpful in understanding why antiblackness, colorism, and racism persists because each individual LatAm nation has its own systems both politically as well as socially that are part of the problem; our shared colonized history is only one piece of the problem.
Just wanted to clear that up in the notes in case someone scrolled through them for more information or nuance and hopefully they would look on your blog for your tags for that added piece of information, cause like you said a lot of those outside of Latin America, or those who have grown up in uninformed Latin American households outside latam are unfamiliar with the individual nations and the individual cultures and issues that affect them within LatAm! It was a really helpful addition so don't worry about it
