Sprawling from the depths of the internet, Paris’ o F F Love penned his latest 3-part EP “Memories”. Written about an obsessive love through the fact that the idea of Prince Charming is more of a myth than reality, the theme of illusion is central to his latest record. A lyrically-thin effort, o F F Love opts for minimal word use and simplistic rhyme patterns instead using repetition to drive the textures of his songs. It's a pattern that repeats throughout the record. Track “Happy Face” oozes over this concept as o F F beams over with his texturized vocoder as the solemn piano chords pound over rattling synthesizer drum trill.
Then there’s “Never Let U Go” which pulses with the tropical laser of his dancehall-infused iridescence and the big spacious beats follow on “Fake Love” with trickle against the plucked keys of his vocal anguish.
His lead single from "Memories" however is “How Much” which has seen both reworking and renditions from Tumblr-era sweethearts Laura Clock (formerly Butterclock) and Kristina Florell of Merely. While the original is a jogging beat that exudes o F F’s burning confession, Clock’s rendition with Sun Angels on production oozes a Balearic beat over the calm ocean of pan-flutes and Laura’s similarly vocoded sound.
However, it’s Merely’s reworking that is the EP’s marquee track. With her fragile coax that surges through a New-Age angelic, the reworking is a fitting end to the track to the purging emotional release that is o F F Love’s “Memories”.
