Bear Run Nature Reserve, which abuts Ohiopyle State Park in the Laurel Highlands of Western Pennsylvania, is best known as the home of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpiece Fallingwater, but the main attraction for me is the well-developed trail system that snakes through the Bear Run watershed. Protected and maintained by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, the reserve encompasses 5,000 square acres of wilderness-quality solitude on Laurel Hill, just a few miles outside of the congested tourist trap of Ohiopyle (the town, not the park).
