A name for Gendry

In the books Arya adds Dunsen to her list for the simple crime of robbing Gendry of his helmet. Even after parting ways with Gendry on less than happy terms, she continues to repeat Dunsen's name in her prayer. It may be just a stolen object, but it seems clear that for her the wrong suffered by the Bull is very serious, in fact she places it on the same level as Polliver robbing her of Needle.

In the show, Arya adds three names to the list because of Gendry. These are Beric and Thoros, who betrayed him and sold him like one sells a slave, and Melisandre who bought him and essentially kidnapped him with the veiled intention of harming him. Except that at a certain point she totally forgets that for some reason, and removes them from the list. And the most wtf thing is that we find out about this change the same night she and Gendry have sex. I mean, she's been flirting with him for days, it's clear that she's still fond of him... but since he survived Dragonstone, I guess the buying and selling of human beings is forgiven and forgotten?!

Laurel rewatch GoT - Part 7 

Arry was Arya all along 

In the books Gendry is a boy who cannot be older than 13/14. When Gendry discovers that Arya is noble, she and Gendry have been friends for several chapters. The two are alone and discuss the fate of their little pack equally. It’s the first time that the two begin to define themselves as "us".

In the series Gendry appears ten years older than Arya. When Gendry finds out that Arya is noble, she and Gendry have known each other for five minutes. The two are among the other recruits and Gendry treats Arya like a little girl who is bothering him. At this point the only thing that binds them is Arya's secret. 

From the beginning their relationship appears unbalanced. The age difference leads to the exclusion of many of the scenes with a too obvious romantic subtext. No wonder so many show-only fans were taken aback by the final consummation of this relationship.

Laurel rewatch GoT - Part 1

Arya's first intentional kill (the one in which she drops the coin)

In the books she is a prisoner in Harrenal, she has just found out that the Lannisters will take back the castle and Bolton doesn't want to take her away. The choice is to kill the guard and escape or stay and die.

In the series rambo-Arya sees some Frey soldiers talking about Robb's death. So in an absurdly stupid way she walks towards the group, armed with a knife, forcing the Hound to intervene.

It's a small but important scene that totally changes her characterization.  Your daily reminder that this character was ruined well before season 7.

Laurel rewatch GoT - Part 9 

Arya Underfoot 

In the books Arya is captured by the BWB. Arya sees Harwin (ex-starkman), she calls him by name, she bursts into tears for fear that he doesn't recognize her and he kneels. 

This is a moving moment in which the connection between Arya and the North is made explicit, but above all the sweet memory of its inhabitants. 

In the series Arya is captured by the BWB. The Hound recognizes the "Stark bitch" (Gods I hate him). And once again an opportunity to talk about a human aspect of the characters is canceled in favor of the revenge theme.

Have you ever noticed that no one in the series ever calls Arya "Horseface".

I am rewatching GoT with a friend who has never seen it (the things I do for love) and I am noticing a lot of things I hate so I warn you that you will find more #antigot posts these days.

Laurel rewatch GoT - part 4

The murder at the crossroads inn: 

In the books Arya sees a woman hanged outside the inn and insists to go away because she is afraid, but the Hound forces her to follow him inside. 

During the fight, Arya has the opportunity to personally remove the first name from her list: the Tickler, a man who has hurt many people in front of her. Arya can't stop stabbing him, and the text shows how terrified she is. 

In the series Arya and the Hound see some of the Mountain’s men enter the inn. In an absurdly stupid way rambo-Arya goes to meet them, forcing the reluctant Sandor to follow her. 

During the fight, Arya has the opportunity to personally remove the first name from her list: Polliver, a man who hurt Arya and her friend. Arya kills him in a cold and methodical way, and from how the scene is shot it emerges that this is a moment of revenge. 

These changes are not neutral - they paint a different character.

Conclusion 

I experienced this rewatch in a very Arya-centric way, my eyes saw nothing but this mess. Thanks for those who had the strength to put up with me. 

Don't worry my friend survived, I threw all my frustrations on tumblr. 

I have to admit that I didn't think I would find so many things to complain about from the first seasons. The thing that amazed me the most is the almost systematic way in which all the most important scenes related to the theme of identity have been rewritten to focus on the theme of revenge. 

For the first time I realize how much the series has influenced the opinions of the fans on this character.

I've been following your rewatch of got and one of the thing that really infuriated me in thr show is that Arya is immediately changed from her book counterpart.

She is no longer the only brunet who has the Stark looks in a sea of redheads, she is no longer the one being called names and bullied,on the contrary, she is the one throwing food at Sansa.her father and mother says nothing when she uses the bow.she lose almost all of her outsider status in her own family.

This is true.

The thing that bothers me in general, besides Arya, is the inconsistency. Here we know that in this society ladies should mantein a composed behavior but, when Arya clearly transgresses, she is encouraged. In the books this is understandable because the transgression is as stupid as having stained a dress while picking flowers. In the series, however, we talk about embarassing the second male son in public first, and embarrassed the future queen in front of the royal family for second.

This is a plague that stains the whole series, but especially the latest episodes.

Other examples that come to mind are Sansa who has spent her entire life as a hostage, but for some reason knows how to sheath armor better than blacksmiths.

Or Arya who has spent years learning how to be invisible and then Petyr notices he's being spied on by her within 5 min.

Or Sandor who suddenly talks about himself as if he were a commoner despite having been a member of the nobility all his life.

Or Jon calling Gendry (Rivers ?!) "boy" despite the two being the same age.

Or Tyrion who is amazed that Lady Brienne is a virgin when he grew up in a society where the highest value of a noble woman is her virginity.

These are obviously little things, not like the big sins of the series. It makes me so mad all the same because this are things easy to fix with 0 budget.

In conclusion if you make up rules for your imaginary world at least make an effort to respect them!
