I did not want to comment on the #gabbypetito case because so much is still up in the air; but let me just say these three things; 1) the media is happily focused on a cute white lady gone missing when many others (including many but #laurencho and #danielrobinson come freshly to mind) have also been reported missing under similar circumstances without the barrage of coverage and obviously that’s wrong and should be addressed; 2) the obvious issues of domestic violence with regard to Gabby and her miraculously missing fiancé/ person of interest have not gotten enough attention; and 3) very few people consider the security required when embarking on a trip like this. Personally; my family has been super chill about this whole traveling the country while fighting cancer thing, except that every night I have to text my family members to let them know where I am. If it’s 7 pm and my siblings don’t know where I’m sleeping, they’re calling me. If they haven’t heard from me inexplicably, believe that law enforcement will be called to my last known location. What do you do, if you’re full time, to let your fam know you’re ok?
