Renarin Resigns
renarinofbridge4 ((Ren very slowly sneaks into Wax’s office. They cautiously slide all the necessary papers for their resignation in front of him, and then stand there trying to look casual and failing.))
lavendercravat ((Wax spins the papers on the table a couple times before raising an eyebrow at Renarin, unimpressed. “What’s this about?”))
renarinofbridge4 ((Ren stands a little more stiffly. This has been rehearsed. “I’m afraid I’m simply not cut out for this, and I’d prefer to focus on my studies and my marriage.”))
lavendercravat ((Wax frowns up at them. “Why now? What prompted this decision at this time?”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“I’ve made enough mistakes.”))
lavendercravat ((Wax’s mouth twitches. “Speaking from experience, mistakes, even excessive-seeming ones, don’t necessarily exclude you from this line of work.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“With my track record, it’s only a matter of time before I make one that can’t be fixed.” Ren shrugs. “I was never cut out for this.”))
lavendercravat ((“What, protecting people on Campus? You’re a Radiant, aren’t you? Isn’t their whole thing protecting people? I’m not sure you could really be any better cut out for something like this.” Wax took a breath. “But, if you’re serious about this…”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“I’m obviously /not/ cut out for this.” Ren takes a moment. “I get caught up in the violence. I make bad decisions.”))
lavendercravat ((“Not exactly unusual, especially for people relatively new to the whole CampSec bit.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“I /know/ I’m disappointing everyone,” Ren says. they fully expect that Wax is too, but will lie about it.))
lavendercravat ((“Seeing as I’m part of everyone and have not been disappointed by you, I can confidently say that that statement is false. Also Sadeas doesn’t count. As a general rule.” Wax tries really hard to be funny sometimes. Occasionally it even works.))

lavendercravat ((Wax stills at that. “Your father?”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“What I pulled with Sadeas… he’s disappointed.”))
lavendercravat ((“Well he shouldn’t be.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“…What?” He’s shocked them into full offense.))
lavendercravat ((“Your father shouldn’t be disappointed in you.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“…Yes he should! I do stupid things!”))
lavendercravat ((“Everyone does stupid things. I’m sure /he’s/ done plenty of stupid things. The doing of the stupid thing isn’t the important part- it’s the dealing with the consequences bit that matters, and you usually handle that part admirably.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“I’m the responsible one.” Ren sits down, accepting that this is going to be a conversation. “I’m meant to be better than this.”))
lavendercravat ((Wax snorts. “The only thing anyone is meant to be is themselves, responsible or irresponsible as that may be. If you’re going to try to be better, just make sure you’re doing it because it’s what /you/ want to be.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“I…” Ren’s lost. “…I want to be what everyone expects of me.”))
lavendercravat ((“That implies ‘everyone’ agrees on what they expect of you. Somehow I don’t think that’s true.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“That’s probably why I don’t have particularly good mental health.”))
lavendercravat ((“…yeah I can’t imagine it would help at all.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“It’s…” Ren is fiddling with the edge of their sweater. “I clearly wasn’t ever meant to fight.”))
lavendercravat ((Wax just gives Ren a /look/ before talking again. “Certainly not for lack of trying. Anyway… there are non-combat things you can do in CampSec, if you should decide to stay on.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((Ren nods along. “…I’m sorry.”))
lavendercravat ((Wax sighs quietly. “If you really want to quit, there’s nothing I can do about it, but you’ll always be welcome here regardless.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((Renarin answers with a silence that means they very, very much don’t want to.))
lavendercravat ((Wax pushes the papers back across the table. “Think about it for another day or two? Figure out if you really want this?”))
renarinofbridge4 ((“If I keep going on like this, I’ll hurt someone.” They push them back at him.))
lavendercravat ((Wax reluctantly picks up the papers and stares at them. “Alright. If you’re sure it’s what You want.” He puts them back on the table and stands to stretch. “The papers probably won’t be processed for another week or so; Mondays are my paperwork days.” He tries for a grin.))
renarinofbridge4 ((“I guess…” Ren manages half a smile. “I’m Anakin and not Luke after all.”))
lavendercravat ((“Hardly. I don’t think I’ve met anyone more Luke in my life. …And Renarin? If you ever change your mind, we’d love to have you back.”))
renarinofbridge4 ((Ren stares down at the floor. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” They stand up, hoping to get out before they get emotional.))
lavendercravat ((Wax watches them go quietly before downing a vial of metal and heading to the roof. Via the window of course.))
