RIP Penny Marshall . Lavern DeFazio taught me about how sarcasm works. I had the honor of working with her once. Staten Island Summer, she was amazing! Grumpy with most but she seemed to like me, she was sitting on set between takes when I went up to her and asked her what she was drinking? She said “ some kid gave me a lousy can of coke, and it’s warm even” I said “hang on a second.” And I ran across the street to a deli to get a cold can of Pepsi. When I handed it to her I said “who the hell gives Lavern a can of coke” She laughed and we talked for a little while. She left when they called for her to continue shooting her scene. I thought I would die, I couldn’t believe I was able to keep calm and sound normal with her. The whole time we talked, inside I was saying Oh My God! Over and over.
