Rosemead (dir. Eric Lin) x VAFF 2025.
Based on the real-life tragedy committed by a Taiwanese-American immigrant single-mother in the eponymous L.A. County city, a stripped-down but powerful Lucy Liu stars as a terminally ill widow desperate to help her schizophrenic teenage son before she passes. It's both a devastating and compassionate indictment of how many Asian communities struggle to treat serious mental and physical illnesses. Liu grounds and brings depth to the sorrow of the identifiable subject matter.
Screened as the opening film at the 2025 Vancouver Asian Film Festival.
