Whenever I want to give up, I try to look for an anchor -- something to keep me going and grounded to the primary reason why I study law in the first place. Here's one of those. This is just two of the 24 brush-fine liner pens my love, Jumel, gave me two years ago. He knows I love color on my law school books and notes, and on my doodles. So, he gave me a set of these. These little things remind me of the bigger ones -- that I cannot let people like him, who are invested on me becoming successful someday, down. Lesson: If our family and loved ones believe that we can achieve our dreams and become equally committed to achieving it along the way, with more reason we have to think and act the same way. Sunday law school hustle. Getting ready for the opening of this semester is both challenging yet exciting. My classes will start tomorrow and the old millenial in me likes to panic. Before our classes for this semester starts, I thought I'd set up my bullet journal to save time. Mine is not as fancy as those you see on Youtube. I decided to just use one of my old sketch notebooks for this purpose. The advantage of doing so is I was able to save money from buying expensive books. The downside, however, is it's hard to decorate and make tabulated figures because it doesn't have dots or grids. Neither is my bullet journaling neatly and creatively done. You can see that my pen bled through the pages most of the time. Nor did I use expensive materials. I only had my Dong-A My Gel pens and Stabilo highlighters to work with -- the same things I use for my law school notes on a daily. But I'm proud of this set up because it fits my law school needs. And I am thankful for the rare opportunity to have spare times within the day to undertake creative endeavors like this. Morning grind. ❤️ One of the quotes I came across on Pinterest is this: "You are not always motivated, so you have to be disciplined". I related to this instantly because there would be times when I couldn't just move even though I want to do A LOT. I daresay, in everything we do -- law school-related or something else -- we have to be consistent and disciplined enough to achieve it. Hence, I chose (and will be choosing in the days ahead) to become consistently productive even when I am unmotivated at a particular time. Despite having to write a lot during the quarantine (I am a writer and defense analyst by occupation), I also endeavored to do some advance readings for my upcoming review subjects this semester. I started with Obligations and Contracts for Civil Law Review II. I am not yet done, but I hope to get there before our classes start next month. In the meantime, as I beat boredom and tiredness (talking about ambivalence), I tried doodling some cover pages for my law school notes. As I see some of my batchmates, who already got their emails from our University that they'll be graduating with their Juris Doctor degree, I can't help but wonder and question myself these: "What could have happened if I studied law full time?" "Would things had been different if I took a step back and didn't pursue other achievements while studying law?" Indeed, my journey in law school has been and is going to be hard, until I pass the bar and become a full-fledged lawyer. But the consolation on these is that no matter how extremely difficult it could be to achieve them, it will never be impossible. I always remind myself that I already got to this point, nearer the finish line than I could ever be almost 6 years ago. There's no turning back. Moving forward is the only option. To everyone here who feels like time has gotten ahead of them, just trust the Lord and His process.
