I was wondering, why do you hate spirals?
Thanks for asking!
Haha, busted, I guess. I hate spirals mostly because I’m very bad at them…
In seriousness, I am not truly opposed to spirals - but would support their inclusion only as a required/optional element if it was so for both genders. The same with the layback spin, which I celebrated when it was made optional last season.
I find the outdated notion that all women are flexible rubber bands who can do these things with no adverse effects quite sexist. Conversely, there are men with very pretty spirals (Jason Brown) and even nice laybacks (Adam Rippon). But they have always had a choice to include them or not include them, whereas someone like Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, who was less flexible and has renowned back issues, was forced to continue doing laybacks because they were required.
