Selling 1 ticket to Glass Animals for tomorrow (October 4) at ExpressLive. $35
Columbus, OH: July 2015
The Deftones released their eighth album ‘Gore’ today. Here’s a photo I took at their show in July I’ve never posted.
The Gods of thrash metal, the mighty Slayer, recently brought their show to Express Live (LC Pavilion) in Columbus.
Testament
I arrived at the venue in time to catch opening band Testament, another of the forefathers of the San Francisco thrash metal scene. The band took to the stage ripping thru one song after another. Vocalist Chuck Billy and guitarist Alex Skolnick were all over the stage, and the band as a whole sounded tight, putting on an energetic set.
If hell had a house band it would no doubt be Slayer!
After a 20 minute intermission, it was time for the main course of the evening … Slayer!
Tom Araya, Kerry King, Paul Bostaph onstage at Express Live
Slayer is currently on tour in support of their latest album, REPENTLESS, which is their twelfth studio recording.
The lights dimmed, and the crowd roared with excitement as the stage was lit, with smoke pouring from behind the curtain. The strains of Delusions Of Savior played over the P.A. as the band members took their spots on stage.
As the first chords of Repentless were struck, the curtain dropped, revealing Slayer Bassist and Vocalist Tom Araya, Lead Guitarists Kerry King and Gary Holt and drummer Paul Bostaph …
Slayer performing in full hellish glory, bathed in red and green lights …
Slayer Memento Mori
As a long time fan of the band, it was hard not to miss original guitarist Jeff Hanneman who passed away two years ago, and has since been replaced with former Exodus guitarist Gary Holt. As the newest member of the band, Gary did a killer job of playing Jeff’s parts and filling his side of the stage.
Slayer performing at Express Live
Slayer played at a very loud deafening volume, typical of any killer show …
They ripped through one song after another, playing a total of 22 songs in roughly 90 minutes, spanning their gloried career.
Standout songs were War Ensemble, Mandatory Suicide, and Seasons In The Abyss.
Tom Araya
Deeper into the Slayer Landscape …
As the set wore on the band delved deeper into their catalogue, closing the set with early classics Raining Blood, Black Magic, and Angel Of Death.
Kerry King
Slayer stormed the stage from the first song and didn’t let up …
Tom Araya
… until the last encore, leaving their die-hard fans very satisfied, and wanting more.
