Grunge Gone Chic
When Chanel and Saint Laurent come out with grunge chic for their Fall 2013 fashion lines, you know it is okay to embrace the 90’s trend. Today’s grunge gone chic is not the grunge from the 90’s that was slept in, picked up off the floor, or scrounged from goodwill. High fashion grunge chic is the edgier, more refined taste from the 90’s. If punk and grunge had a baby, grunge gone chic would be the by-product. Still, when you hear the word grunge, you may immediately think of flannels and boots, paired with a nonchalant attitude– and there is nothing chic in that image. But fashion evolves. Now, as we look back at the 90’s grunge as the worst of the worst, we borrow those ideas to create a better version. Designers have been “borrowing” ideas from past fashion fads since the very beginning and I doubt this will be the last time. Almost every time this happens, the trends only improve. Grunge from the 90’s is long gone and has been replaced by an evolved, grunge gone chic. Not to worry, there are many ways to rock this look while still looking chic. To pull off this look you have to look like you don’t care, while still caring. Confusing, I know, but the look can be achieved by simply adding a few staple pieces into your wardrobe this fall.
Motorcycle/combat boots- They might look daunting to style in your wardrobe, but motorcycle boots can be worn with classy and grungy pieces to create an effortlessly cool look.
Over-sized sweaters/ turtlenecks- With wearing something so large and unfitted on top, be sure to pair the sweater with something form fitting on the bottom.
The new plaid-Don’t be afraid to wear plaid this fall. Plaid does not have to be ugly grunge. Make plaid chic with a short dress, a pair of trousers, or a oversized coat.
Baseball caps- Baseball caps are no longer relegated to only baseball games. Pair a leather baseball cap with an outfit for an immediate cool girl effect.
