The work that Jason Young has done for others is unique in many ways, but the most interesting part of his work is he and his partners are excellent in making those interacting with their architecture feel deeply connected. The two projects Everydaywines and Everydaycook were specifically made to make those within the walls feel as if they are a part of everything that is happening, and their designs were able to achieve this goal. Even though, I will never likely go to theses places, I felt as if I had already visited and experienced them just through seeing the pictures that were presented in class. The open design with the kitchen stretching out into the main room of Everydaycook allowed the costumers to feel as if they were apart of a the main kitchen which would give them a sense of confidence and security. Along with the open design of the kitchen area, the hanging ovens were simply amazing to me due to that fact that such massive objects were suspended with no underneath support. Even though not shown in one of the pictures, Young’s most inspiring design to me was the small residence he remodeled. The room in which you couldn’t sit in the room was such as innovative design that it became one of my top favorite architectural designs that we have looked at thus far. Being able to feel engaged with a design that is not typical to modern design is the main underlying theme in Young’s designs, and every project he presented in class carried this underlying theme quietly but consistently. In conclusion, Young and WETSU are a small design group, but on the outsider edge of what is typical in the architectural realm, they are using innovative design ideas to connect others to their surrounding architecture.
