Lighting: How did I do it? I have always focused on lighting whether it be natural, window, speed light, strobe, or video light. I carry and use a variety of lighting that include my amazing #dedolight #ledzilla which is not only one of the finest video lights you’ll ever find, but one of the most expensive and it paid for itself here. • My assistant held the dedolight just over my shoulder to my left at the couple using the incandescent filter to match the soft lighting in a very dark part of this wine cellar. I used a 50mm 1.4 and f/3.2 at 1600 iso. My shutter speed is always 1/200 of a second. I posed the couple and took the shot. • Why do I always stay at 1/200? -> In this image I’m shooting a Canon 5D3 and the maximum sync speed to 1/200. I love my flashes, strobes and my very expensive Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries. Although my flashes and strobes can go into high speed sync and work faster than 1/200 it beats up your flashes and batteries. I’ll explain! At 1/200 of a second when I press the shutter the flash will give off one burst of light at whatever power setting I use. When you use high speed sync, your flashes are actually strobing super fast in order for the shutter not to be seen moving across the frame of the image. This strobing reduces power, increases heat and depletes your batteries fast. You can’t see it with your eye it’s so fast but you lose power. 1/200 is fast enough to stop movement especially with flash that freezes motion and making 1/200 a habit I preserve my equipment and can shoot a whole wedding day on one set of batteries. • I teach photography throughout south Florida and have a number of private students, if you’re interested in learning photography and lighting get in touch..
