When Lee saw his gift, his eyes widened like saucers. It was a make-up kit.
Since they have been on the run, they've had very little wiggle room in terms of their financial situation. How Lee longed for the days of sleeping in his big, mahogany bed with his soft weighted blankets. Now, it was thin and cheap motel blankets that are covered in a multitude of stains (from God knows where)
They were being hunted down by the Family and searching for the other Carriers. So far, they had found another named Steve. And when you're on the run and have crazy shit happen to you on a daily basis, normalcy is rare.
And luxuries like the make-up kit were especially rare as well.
"So, uh. What do you think?" Mo held out the kit within his palms. The man stood awkwardly in their motel room, shifting his eyes to a non-descript corner of the room.
"Lee? Hey, did I do something wrong? I-," Lee wrapped his arms around Mo's neck and cupped his face. Lee closed the distance between the two. The two stood in the doorway of the motel room in each others' embrace. Slow, quiet kisses were exchanged. Mo put down the kit on an adjacent surface and wrapped his arms around Lee's (too frail) frame. Lee's fingers trailed down to Mo's biceps and squeezed them, which earned a gentle moan from Mo.
Mo opened his eyes and gazed at Lee while they kissed. The man smiled when Lee furrowed his eyebrows while he kissed (which Mo always adored whenever he did). Once they had to stop for air, Lee perched his chin onto Mo's shoulder and buried his face into the other man's hair.
"Happy Valentine's Day, babe." Lee yawned.
"Loud."
"Shut up."
They both dislocated and stared at each other for awhile. Lee's black eyes, which remind Mo of the night sky, sparkled. These intimate moments were fleeting. When death becomes part of the routine, it's hard to find semblance of stability.
Mo never thought he would be into men.
If you would have told him he was going to date another man, let alone his closest friend that he considered a brother, he would have said that you were out of your gourd.
But, here they are.
Running from a crazy cult and tracking down other "special ones", and staying in a dingy town in the middle of nowhere, uprooted from their lives. And, he is embracing that very man with his starry eyes, disheveled hair, and blushing freckled cheeks.
Lee got out from his hiding spot and led Mo to the lumpy bed. They both laid down facing each other. Mo lazily wrapped an arm around Lee's waist and snuggled up against his chest. Lee turned off their lamp light and closed his eyes.
