OMG A ROCHELLE MENTION IN 2026??!!! I legit thought about her too! I thought it was just me! I played the fuck out of L4D2 growing up and the Rochelle hate was vile! If you joined a lobby as Rochelle you would legit get team killed or left to die. It was so gross, and naturally people hid behind her being "boring" as an excuse to hate her. Like I find the entire L4D1 cast boring(ok not really but in direct comparison to the sequel cast yeah they kinda are) never crossed my mind to team kill any of them or bash them. Rochelle being the only black woman in FPS game in the late 2000s was a fucking shitshow. I will never forget that shit as long as I live. If people knew what I knew she'd fucking sweep a tournament like this. Or at least get to the final round.
rochelle left 4 dead propaganda!
If you ever do a rerun of this poll with a new bunch of overhated/mistreated female characters, will you do user submissions of any sort? Or female characters from things that don't have super huge fandoms? I've noticed most of the characters here are (understandably) from things that are pretty well-known
I'm asking because I think Rochelle from Left 4 Dead 2 is literally perfect for a tourney like this, even if she'll probably lose simply bc the game's fandom is kinda non-existent now. But back when Left 4 Dead was a lot larger, Rochelle would get so much vehement hatred for literally just breathing the wrong way. Always the butt of the joke all the time and always losing popularity contests. People HATED this woman for no reason at all. It bled into everything. Goofy gmod videos, workshop mods, fanart. Rochelle hatred was unavoidable. And if it wasn't hatred, she was getting sidelined in favor of Nellis or reduced to their cheerleader in fanfiction
Its mostly died out now, but I feel like it's an unforgettable stain on the Left 4 Dead community that can never truly be forgotten as long as Left 4 Dead has fans
I've seen ppl before trying to say the hate wasn't genuine and at most they just found her boring, and that may be true, but I just can't see how misogyny and racism did not play a role in the way the fandom treated her, even if the hate wasn't genuine
i definitely will be doing a rerun on this poll next year (i'll start taking submissions at the beginning of june 2027) and there's absolutely no requirement that the character be from a huge fandom in order for me to accept their submission. in fact, in the earlier rounds of this tournament there were a lot more characters from smaller fandoms. they lost to characters from bigger fandoms, but if you're okay with the likelihood of that happening to the characters you'll submit, then you absolutely should submit them! the purpose of this blog is to give people a space to vent about fandom misogyny, and the last thing i want to do is to limit that venting to only the biggest and most popular fandoms.
anyway, rochelle left 4 dead propaganda!
