Dad, Major Ross Eastgate OAM, wore his Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary beret today for Anzac Day. Although he was Australian Army Corps of Signals, his posting to PNG had him in the role of Director of Communications for the PNG Police, where he served with distinction in the Bougainville Civil War, alongside PNGDF and ADF personnel. A decade later my Uncle, Major John Eastgate, & older Bother, Major Mark Eastgate served there together. NB for all the Military nerds out there, the badge on the beret is worn on the opposite side in the Police vs the Army. It’s pretty scary as a 9 year old knowing that your Dad is away fighting in a war, as it is for all Defence Force family members. Lucky for us, our Dad came home. Many don’t.
