A N X I E T Y .

Tap-Tap-Tapping fingers. Click-click-click-click-clicking pen.  Both legs  b o u n c i n g . Heaving a sigh. Suddenly standing. Pacing across the floor, one wall to the other and back again. Checking the time. Sitting down. Checking her email. Pacing some more. A continuous cycle until her anxiety is resolved.

F R U S T R A T I O N .

A spectacular scowl and furrowed brow. Slammed folders. Angry SIGHS. Crumpled papers. Agitated scribbling. Harsh and fast typing that sounds throughout the whole office for its ferocity. Pitched office supplies when no one is there to see, found across the room or under some furniture later.

M I S C H I E F .

Eyes flashing and practically alight, like a lighthouse warning ships to beware of hidden dangers. Gaze keen and sharp, watching for the moment when all of her scheming comes to fruition. A wicked curve to the corner of her lips––the degree of upturn determined by the level of mischief and by how secretive she means to be––threatening to manifest into a full grin.

       she always felt SOMEWHAT OUT OF PLACE at staff parties. she worked hard to make sure she was fit for the field: exercised when she could, read up on all the science she could stand and then some, but so many of their coworkers had been a part of the sanctuary since they were young. hell, many of them were still young, as evidenced by how freely they cut loose on the dance floor. still, she was smiling as she watched them. rewarding as their work could be, it could also be stressful. she was glad to see everyone CUT LOOSE.

       james’s voice broke through her reverie, and she had to admit, the request surprised her. she felt the flush spread throughout her very being, and for a moment she just looked from his offered hand to his face and back again. still, she couldn’t help the wide smile that snuck past the pounding of her heart. ❝ of course doctor w...JAMES, ❞ she self corrected, lithe fingers slipping into his. ❝ it would be my honor. ❞

Came because I spotted on my dash a very well-written Geralt of Rivia and I've just watched the show, so I'm running high on Witcher atm. Stayed because you really are great

Sitting up a bit from where she was half leaning on the table, the steam from her cup of tea curling up around her face, Luna tilted her head.  “Does it?” She wondered innocently. “One wonders then, what does a riddle sound like, as opposed to a query or a statement?”  She wrapped her hands around the aforementioned cup, taking a sip before she glanced up at James once more and watched him puzzle over her words. She noted the small shiver and her expression fluctuated to one of worry before settling back to it’s normal, sort of far away serene appearance once more.  Placing her cup back on it’s saucer she folded her hands and rested her chin on her thumbs, index fingers raised with tips touching against her lips for a moment before she spoke again.  “Perhaps it means that what you lose isn’t as important as what you find. Or...who. Perhaps it teaches us what truly matters.”  When he asked about where she picked it up she gave a small shrug.  “Nowhere I suppose, just a thought I had.”

There wasn’t a way to twist it that didn’t ultimately end with it being his fault. There was always a choice, and he had made his, to keep the timelines intact. Something being objectively right didn’t make it palatable, or something you could sleep with. And while he didn’t view survival cannibalism through the same lens as the man in front of him, he knew exactly what it could do to people. And had done to people, throughout time and space.

“Silna’ll be fine, trust me. If anyone’s gunna be fine after all this it’s her. She’ll find her way home and they’ll take her back, they’re good people.” Easiest to get the kinder part of things out of the way, and he had zero doubt that he was right. Lord knew, if things had gone differently, she could have saved them all. At least from a certain angry, grieving bear. 

“You don’t have to do anything.” He said after a beat of silence, more genuine than he’d been in a very long time. “Not to yourself, anyway.” Grim humor. As much as he hated the cold that came with every time death spat him back out, the residual energy that came with resurrection was going to be helpful for more than a party trick this time. 

Both hands came up to Harry’s shoulders, looking him in the eye with a wan smile. He couldn’t fix the rest of it, but he could fix this.

“I’m gunna need you to kill me instead, for about ten- maybe fifteen minutes. And when I bounce back, we’re going to borrow a really mad bear, got it?” What they’d didn’t have time for, was the automatic rejection of the idea of bouncing back. He stepped back. “Before you start, ever thought it was weird that I’m fine?-- I mean, I’m starving, but I’ve done that before. I mean, all this time and everything that’s happened, and I’m otherwise fine?” 

No wounds, no bruises, nothing to show for everything that had happened. People only noticed what they wanted to see. People looked for injury, rather than  the lack thereof. Flashed smile as he picked up the sharpest thing he could find, dragging it over his palm and drawing blood before the wound closed over as if it had never existed. “Ever vaguely wanted to snap my neck? Now’s your chance, sunshine.”

“… What do you think that you are doing, Miss?” questions that soft voice as the one to whom it belongs seems to materialize from the very shadows themselves. After all, surely he hadn’t been standing there all this time.

“You shouldn’t be lifting such things in your condition. Do you know what the Captain would say to me if he thought I let you do such a thing?”
