Art dump this week! Continuing from my first post about my fan season inspired by The Snow Queen. These were all done over the past 3-4 months.

Queen Skadi is the villain of this season. While the Hans Christian Anderson story is Danish, the version that most impacted me as a child was the 1957 Soviet animated film, thus the Russian attire.

Boreas's face came to me pretty quickly, but his outfit gave me some trouble. I'm getting very close to something I like thanks to looking at some modern Inuit clothing designs. + Some snow and ice sprite exploration.

Cold weather outfits for the squad! I was confident enough with these designs that I went ahead and colored them as well, though I'm going to change Emily's earmuffs to blue instead. Their warm weather designs still need a second pass.

Designing new animals for the minidoll style was very fun! The sprites will reuse the existing plush toy and microdoll pieces, but include a new wing piece for the ice sprites. The griffin and deer are based on the tiger and horse figures respectively. And the "fancy bird" is adapted from the minidoll bird and the phoenix piece.

Finally I've begun second passes on side builds that weren't very detailed in initial concept. Drawing out how I want the sets to look has really helped me visualize what pieces to use when I get to the Studio phase of the project.

Type Axiom 2.0, Unit 07, <Gladiator>

Here comes the last one of Type Axiom 2.0, Gladiator. There are a lot of design elements from the original Atlas series by using large amount of pieces of 35341 (the flat piece with angle), which I found super versatile because they won’t cause clear layers when stacking, thanks to the curved edges. Also, this piece can show great layering effect without using many other pieces.

By adopting the versatility of piece 35341, I am able to create the shape of the waist and head, the front leg amour, , the shape of asymmetrical leg which I really like the outcome, and a very clean thrust at the backpack, especially the little holes created by this wonder piece.

Originally, there is A LOT of orange elements for this unit; however, as I want to make it less comic but more realistic, I reduce the orange elements to a decorative level while giving the main stage to light grey and dark beige.

I Loved Lego as a Child

I Loved Lego as a Child growing up. I think the first time that I received a Lego set as a gift was when I was 5 years old, and my grandfather came back from a business trip in Poland.

BTW I probably did not mention that I was born in Ukraine

So my grandfather was able to travel to Poland, or maybe he went to Germany and he stopped in Poland. Doesn't matter because I was able to get my first Lego at that time. The next time I got to buy lego was when I was moving to Canada, and we stopped in Amsterdam. At the airport duty free, my mom bought me a set of Lego as well. When my dad joined us in Canada, he also brought me a Lego Set when he was flying through Amsterdam.

I remember by the time that I was 12, I had a tub of Lego and I could make as many designs as I wanted. I remember sitting in my room alot and playing with the Lego cause I didn't have that many friends. I wasn't social until High School, and I really watched alot of Star Trek. I would imagine trying to build some of the ships and the sets that I saw on the show. I am greatful that in my 30's, I can finally make those dreams come true.

The fact that I have already built the NX-01 is awesome. The fact that I have also been gifted the Constitution Class Cruiser is also awesome! That was hands down the best B-Day gift from my SO ever! And now that the parts for the Constitution Class Refit are in the mail, I can officially say that my shipyard is expanding.

I was also able to reduce the cost of the parts for the Excelsior Class by modifying some of the colours on the parts, and I think all parts will come to about $80 vs $140 as originally thought.

One of the incentives in completing the titanic redesign was to see how the design could be converted into an aircraft carrier.

In the late 90s, Puzz 3D came out with the RMS Titanic and I remember sitting on my grandmother's couch watching television when the advert went  on and my jaw dropped, i just had to get it that christmas or else i'd die. Fast forward a couple years later, and  the warships building phase was in full swing and with  an eye for warships I thought about what would happen if i converted the puzzle by adding a cardboard flightdeck and paper superstructure? It would be freaking awesome  is what would happen. Unfortunately, It never occurred to me photograph any of these ships and builds and conversions but i remember them from time to time and so I figured i'd share that before the memory fades.

The story goes; the imperial atlantian navy was taking heavy losses on ships and with her enemies far away, more carriers would be needed to carry out deeper strikes. Before more of the newer carriers could be launched, some ships  were converted for a new and special task. It just so happens in this paralel universe, a class of ships like the titanic were built. Before the war, the ships served their duties as luxurious trans-oceanic liners however with the war raging on, such travels were suspended. With a means to make up for the loss of revenue, the ships were leased to the imperial navy and refitted as troop transports and hospitals ships. It was later decided  to convert some of the remaining ships into carriers, since the liners had better characteristics than some of the many other hulls available.  Of the hulls examined, only two were successfully converted and served. The  plan was to convert the ships in time for the upcoming offensives in a supportive role and worse case scenario, as plane transports for other carriers.

From an engineering standpoint, converting  the liner into a carrier would've been costly, so  much so it probably would've been cheaper to  make a carrier from scratch. The powerplant would also either need modernization or replacement, both of  which would require a great deal of deconstruction for installation. The hull would also have needed strengthening to accommodate the heavier tonnage(?) with most of the bulkheads and frames being remade  into hangers, workshops, weapons storage,  aviation fuel tanks, and aircraft elevators. With this, the funnels would’ve naturally been trunked to the side and outward. And as mentioned before in  the previous blog, the titanic is a relatively large hull, so placing a flightdeck on  it would’ve been tempting for military planners but  whether it would be economically and technically feasible is still questionable.

The atlantian empire however  was able to somehow produce two carriers from this liner class to bolster  the number of  active carriers available. To meet the demand, there  would've been compromises in  defensive armament and armor  protection. The best the industry could do under the limited circumstances was provide a carrier that could sail as part of a formidable vanguard task force while faster and stronger carriers operated closer to the frontline. Without an armored flightdeck, one of the carriers did eventually subcumb to a surprise dive bomber attack and was scuttled in an allied port. This carrier would be re-surfaced and sold for scrap. The second carrier saw light action (as intended) and survived  the war to be sold for scrap.
